I find myself more patience concerning cyclists on the road after I started riding. You really understand why its sometimes necessary to stay on the road instead of the bumpy cycle roads.

I draft trucks and busses...

Yes............but no due to cycling. I dodge that stuff because tires on cars are expensive!;)

I was car free for five years and when I started driving again I had the use of a right hand drive car for some time... I always felt like I was in the right place and my friend who owns the car said he liked this about the car as well.
For people who don't drive regularly the transition can take a little bit and for me it was mostly in regard to speed... I have probably driven close to 1,000,000 km in my life so it came back pretty quickly. |
I just paid a $120 ticket for rolling a stop sign :-( I don't think I can blame that on cycling but it isn't helping.

I have large offroad tires on my truck that only costs $300 each and I usually get 40,000 - 50,000 miles out of them. |
I remember CDR posting on this before, but like him I find pack riding skills influence my driving style on my commute, but they reinforce good driving habits. Look up the road beyond the guy in front, conserve energy - don't surge, don't drive behind idiots.

I usually get lost, or at least turned around if I try to drive some out in the boonies set of backroads that I usually cycle. Traveling those same roads at 45 mph, makes things go by way too fast compared to being on the bike.

Guilty here too, I find myself wondering which gear to take the next hill with.
Isn't it amazing how DIFFERENT things look from a bike to a car? I retraced a route I took to a pretty little lake the other day so my wife could see it, got turned around and damn near lost whereas on a bike I've made the trip with no problem at all. Just looked so vastly different from a sedan than a bike. |
