Need help to identify Orbea road frame
1 Attachment(s)
Good day!
I spent 4 hours or more trying to find some info about Orbea frame, with no results. I dont know a model and year of production. I have only a poor photo of it and that it has carbon fork and rear triangles. Woman who sells it does not want to be bothered a lot, she asks 250euro for it (used). I like the classic shape of it and its my size, but trying to figure out if its really worth the price and the carbon rear looks quite weak to me, but maybe its just a impression. Here is the pic btw http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=331973 Thanks for any help. |
i dont know what model/year of it, but 250 euro for an orbea frame is a steal, son

Looks like an Orbea Starship?
|
I believe that the Starship name relates to the aluminum tubing set used. I have a very similar appearing frame and it's the "Lobular" [wolf, in English] from the 2004-2006 era. You can check the Orbea web site for older model info.
YMMV -dg |
Thank you for your help guys
Indeed starship frame doesn't have a carbon rear triangle, so its most likely Lobular 50 or 100, not sure, because I still can't find exactly the same frame on the internet, such a rare frame.... But I think I will take a little risk and buy it. Just hope there will be no problem fitting modern components such as shimano hollowtech 2 bb. |

Hmm, I think it looks just like mine, just with different paint. And mine's a Starship. And it has carbon stays. I'm pretty sure the starship came in two versions, with or without carbon stays.
Went out and snapped a pic on my phone for you. Hope it's big enough to see but I think it looks just like that frame. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=332061 And a quick google image search of "Orbea Starship" returned an image of one with that white, yellow, and grey paint job. Of course I could also be mistaken. I went from lurking to posting just cause I saw a bike that looked like mine. Anyway, if I were you I would probably just buy it. Good luck! |

Libriz, Maybe you are right . Anyway I bought that frame, at first was a bit dissapointed as there's no any model signification on the frame, however it was easy to see that its relatively a high quality frame and lovely people offered me a carbon seat post and a stem. So i think for my budget it was the best deal at the moment.
If somebody could tell me what type of BB it has English or Italian it would be great! The shell width is 68cm if it can help. Here is some good pics of the frame http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=332228http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=332229 |
Not sure myself but seems like you have it narrowed down......great looking color scheme and sort of reminds me of the old Greg Lemond Zurich or was it the Versailles???? bikes but they had a top tube that was partial carbon mated to aluminum as well.
I love those compound bikes as I call them with a mix of ingredients. What are your plans with it? |
It's the same frame and fork as my old 2006 Marmolada. Mine came with Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed shifters, and a FSA megaexo bottom bracket and crankset, just like the specs in the link.
It was a great riding bike, the carbon stays helped with road buzz. It had quick and accurate steering. A solid bike. Yours is very large, maybe a 58 or 60 cm? The frame in the link is a 54 cm, which is what I had. |
I didn't ask the previous owner about the name of a complete bike, but he told me that it was equipped with campagnolo drive train. But I want to mount it with a shimano 105 or Ultegra, in fact I find much more efficient to put more money in some lightweight wheels rather than in expensive drive train setup especially because I live in area with lots of up/down hills.
The Frame size is 60 but still feels reasonably light. The bike will be for trainings and some amateur group racing. |
