S-Works E5 vs Specialized Allez Comp

This is my first post on this board :)

I have a 2003 Specialized Allez Comp and I just got a great deal on a 2005 S-Works E5 frameset. My question to this board is if I'll notice any difference in either ride quality or weight between the two frames.

Yes.

as a guy riding a E5 frame, i'd have to say it's an amazing frame, if you can get a good deal on it or afford it, get it, you won't regret it.

Heh, don't look forward to being able to do any kind of riding on that E5 of yours this week, yet again. :(

You tell us - who better to answer the question than you? Having said that, a chap that I ride with just made that switch, and is incredibly pleased with the difference.

How about this?

'05 Allez Comp vs. '05 S-Works E5

Carbon seat stays on the '05 look good. Too bad they don't sell it in a frame set.

Actually, I had been riding a 03 Allez Comp and just built up an S-Works. The S-works is lighter, but then I added all lighter components. So how much of the difference is just from the frame, I don't know. I noticed a difference riding. From a smoothness standpoint, they seem about the same. The S-Works seems to be more responsive thought. But I haven't had alot of ride time on it yet because Mother Nature's gps is goofed up and she keeps mistaking Socal for Seattle.

At this point, I definitely think it was worth it.

My LBS has an 05 S-Works with carbon seat stays. They said they were team versions. I didn't get one though. I bought the matte black S-Works.

Don't suppose you know the price of this frame do you? My LBS can't get one and I'd love to know what Specialized are asking for it.

timmhaan 03-23-05 10:18 AM

do your '03 frames sport the zebra strip paint job? mine does and i love it. used to hate it, but it has really grown on me over the past year.

My LBS quoted me a price of $699. I don't know what the MSRP is though. I think he said that they were left over from some team purchase or something like that. He made is sound like he wouldn't be able to get them again once he sold the couple that he had left. Don't know if that was sales talk, but he seemed pretty straight with me. They only come in red unlike the regular S-Works E-5 which also come in the silver and black.

Cost of the matte black with fork and seatpost is $900 USD. It's on their website and the shops are sticking to that for a good reason. That's actually a pretty good deal.

I'd want to know what the cost is for the Allez Comp 05 frameset.

That's great - thanks. Don't suppose you could PM me the LBS info could you? I might think about getting one of those CF-stay E5 frames.

Sorry ... I should have been clearer. I was talking about the new E5 frame with the carbon seat stays, not the regular E5 Road frame. I almost bought one of those black frames but went with a 2003 one instead!

My LBS had the black on sale for $799. They also had the red along with the team version with the carbon stays...

OK. Am I crazy for thinking this...?!?!?!

Right now I ride a Giant TCR1 2002 Alloy frame.

Now I'm thinking about the S-Works 05 or Allez Comp 05 frame...both are aluminum, but what I think are upgrades from my current ride.

With other frame materials out there, am I just plain crazy to think about getting another Al frame? These frames just seem to call out to me.

I upgraded from a 03 Allez Comp to an S-Works. Now that I did it, I think it was definitely worth it. But I upgraded everything on the bike. Before I did it, I test rode a Litespeed Ultimate. It was nice but it wasn't nice enough for the price difference to me. Maybe I'm odd, but the Ti frame just didn't woo me like I expected. I suppose that I may have had unrealistic expectations of it before I rode it. At any rate, I wasn't overwhelmed with a desire to have it. But, maybe I'm just weird and like aluminum frames...
