When to replace a roadie tire
I have some 4000S's on my shelf ready to go.
They have the nice little wear dots to know, but my 'new' bike came with PRO4's so Ive been rolling on them.
Rear tire already replaced back around March. It was obvious.
This is front. I guess 4500miles or so on them, maybe 5000. 14months. Lots of cracking... Don't know if my Conti's have ever started cracking like this.
100mile ride tomorrow...

I think anyone would agree it's better safe than sorry, especially if you're already on the fence about the quality of the ones you're riding now. With some good tires on the shelf get 'em on there!
I got a flat yesterday, and thought, "This cheapo $14 Vittoria needs to go." I'd had plenty of luck with them, but I remembered a friend gave me a set of Continental 4000s for free, and I've yet to try them!

That does not seem like usual wear. It look more like dry-rot caused by ( I think ) exposure to sunlight. Insufficient tire pressure can make it worse.
Usual wear is wear on the actual tire itself. I personally ride them until there are obvious gashes or damage on the tire, or when you are close to seeing the material under the outer layer.

Michelin tires for bikes suck.
At least in the 90's. Expensive and no sidewall strength. Every one, and I had 4 blew the sidewall.
