Anybody like Ksyserium SSL

These days when I talk to myself, it is generally about whether or not to buy a set of kyserium ssl. Yesterday I talked to a shop guy and he said they wouldn't feel any different than my open pro... that I'd just be wasting my money on bling. 'Course I been known to do that... Anybody like their kyseriums better than open pro or anything else for that matter?

I'm considering buying them by spring. Almost everybody raves about these wheels, even my LBS. I checked the web reviews, they rave about them too, except for few here and there who complains about cracking at the spoke nut.
I even picked them up at the LBS, boy they felt light.
So I guess I'll go for them.

I love that wheelset, and they are incredibly popular with the members of my bike club - probably by far, the most used wheelset. I wish my bike had come with them rather than the Dura-ace. The Dura-ace, BTW is a super wheelset - I just love the looks of the Mavics so much more.

Yeah, they even look good, most of my club partners are converted to them too. I'd wish they come in black to match the color of my bike, the silver color will make my bike look kind of "washed out".

The cracking issue I've heard about, has to do with weight limitations I think. Now me at 160lbs shouldn't be an issue (I hope).

The black ones are the older models. Mine are black and they are the 2003 model. Even though I like this wheel, I feel it is a bit too stiff. I usually ride my Velomax Circuit wheels which have a great ride.

Perhaps they won't feel as stiff on my Reynolds 681 frame. We'll see...

Why in the world would you not want stiff wheels....

I agree...I want stiff wheels. I owned a set of SL's for a few months last year and they are sweet wheels. Why of course they are better than Open Pro's! I've ridden both....no comparison. I'll never go back to traditional spoked wheels again! Of course it always helps when the Ksyriums are under a full carbon Giant TCR Composite O with full Dura Ace 10

Just a personal preference. I like comfort. I love the way my frame absorbs alot of the road. When I ride with my Ksyriums it takes away from the feel of my frame that I love. All-in-all it is a great wheelset. I have not had one problem with them.

How would you compare their durability to the Rolf Elans?

squeegy200 02-28-05 06:52 PM

My friend has the SSLs. He uses them on his Steel framed Davidson. He also had DuraAce/Open Pros to compare.

He liked the comfort of the DuraAce/Open Pros but says he feels faster on the SSLs. He does think they transmit more road buzz than his 3X wheelset.

Love mine and wouldn't ride anything else.

Im 140 lbs and got a cracks across the spokes holes on the rim. my buddy loaned me his rear wheel while mine was getting replaced took 3 months, in that time his rim got a crack. i got about 11,000 miles on the original set. i hear they fixed the problem on the 04- 05s and i bought another pair.( i had 2003) i did buy a pair of American Classic 350 wich are a 1/3 of a pound lighter then the sl but the sl is a faster wheel.

Aw the Circuits, i bought a pair for a secound wheelset. i did have American classic 350 for a secound set but they sucked, cheap bearings. i have not rode the Circuits yet but spinning them by hand they are smooth and fast. they seem to be a very good built wheelset, quality bearings. they roll longer then my mavic SL spinning them by hand im impressed.
