I'm not talking about riding while impaired, more like having lunch and a couple of beers with friends and going for a 30+ miler a few hours later. I have, and it wasn't bad once I got through the initial alcohol sweat factor in the first 1/2 hour. I actually felt pretty strong by mile 35, but I'm sure my performance wasn't quite up to par. Anyway, just wondering.

Just keep in mind that in some US States, DWI applies to bikers and motorists. And I would add that you don't have to blow over the limit in Texas to go to jail. I have actually seen people arrested for biking under the influence.

he's right. You can be charged with DWI in north carolina on a bike, a riding lawn mower, a horse, a moped, a unicycle, and almost any type of "vehicle".

As it should be, but that's not my query. A burger and a couple of beers (normal < 5% beer that is) followed by a ride 2 - 3 hours later wouldn't register as DWI in any state as far as I know.

When touring in the Czech Republic, I always had .5L of beer with lunch. After lunch, I was a bit weak for the first half hour, but then felt fine. Good carbs, good hydration, fine taste, cheaper than water. I don't do that here, though. Water's free, the beer's usually not very good, and I don't need the weak 1/2 hour. We ride our tandem out of the BR most Sundays.

Silly boy, that's what the stoker is for, let her peddle harder for 1/2 hour. Of course you can have a beer with lunch.

There is a 2-day ride here each June that is 108 miles the first day and 92 miles the second. I haven't done the ride in a couple years, but normally on the first day, I stop at about mile 85 for a couple pints of Guinness and a snack. I've noticed no difference when I hop (see what I did there?) back on the bike.

Both times I've had beers with lunch during rides I've bonked like 3 or 4 hours later. Probably coincidence...or maybe the make me dehydrated or I don't eat enough. Eitherway, I don't bother anymore.

Ya, was doing track stands on my '94 Bontrager OR Race Lite SS at about 1:00 AM and fell badly on my left knee. PCL, MCL, and meniscus torn, surgery required, humor did not ensue...

I think of it in the event I get killed or mangled with booze in my system on a bike. Even if Im not legally drunk, I can picture lawyers arguing about the effects of alcohol while riding a bike which requires balance. Anything not to pay out a claim or reduce the pay-out.

I actually did a short stint tonight (10 miles) after two Miller Lites. Two beers in 1 1/2 hours and than I put a new seat on my bike that I bought on my way home from work.
I had to try my new seat out!

I remember, back in the day, about 1:00 am, trying to make a surprise booty call on my GF... screaming along an unlit bike path along the river, fairly wasted... hit a $&!? post that they'd put in the path to keep cars off.

I showed up torn up and bloody buuuut... still got laid!

Largely quit drinking myself a couple years ago. My Strava/Garmin numbers are more impressive, my overall fitness has improved and there's about 100 lbs. less of me. Couldn't be better, despite the occasional cough.

I'd sometimes have a nip of whiskey/whisky after work with the guys before riding home. At those times, my legs seem to listen a little better when I tell them to shut up.

I agree, but it can surely cause drowsiness. I had two beers at a bar and rode home after that. I was okay until I came to a stop at a light. I somehow fell asleep while leaning against the pole and before I knew it, I fell on the ground. Luckily, no damage to the bike.

Haven't had a drink in 20+ years, but when I was young it was pretty common. And back in the 70s, cops would be glad to see you biking because it meant you weren't driving. These days, I'm with Long Tom.

Had a couple beers after a race one time and then rode home. I waited an hour for the alcohol to clear, but it wasn't enough. It was misting a little. Ended up wiping out on some railroad tracks. I would recommend not riding buzzed.
