Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ahh, I just realized there is a Crosscheck DC model, that's what I'm looking for. I don't see one like that from Surley.

Not the crosscheck, but the Disc Trucker.

https://surlybikes.com/bikes/disc_trucker

This is what sold me on this bike:

Max. Tire Size700c: 45mm without mudguards; 42mm with mudguards 26": 2.1" with or without mudguards.

45/42mm tires with discs.
Winning!!!

The crosscheck is from surley but I don't think they make a disc version. It's the long haul trucker like Ryder said.

EDIT: however, you probably don't want an LHT. It's not a bike that is something you hop on to tool around town. Well, I guess you could, but it's meant to be loaded for touring and is rather overbuilt for casual riding.

Actually the Long Haul Trucker/LHT is not equipped with discs, only the Disc Trucker.
Essentially the same bike, but they label it different.
My CXer with disc is closer to 23-24lbs with pedals, 2 full 25oz water bottles, & a saddle bag with tubes/tools/etc.
Which is why I call her my "Tank".
I'm sure the Trucker would be fine for a cruising around town, I agree its overbuilt for that but its probably more comfortable that my ALU CXer.

If you really want discs, take a look @ some of newer CXers.
ie: Kona Jake,Spesh Crux disc,etc.

Yeah but those seem more geared to racing and leave out the rack/fender mounts don't they? I think I'm chasing a unicorn here, big surprise. When I get my money straightened out I could probably do without the disc brakes, it would be cheaper without them anyways, I just thought it would be cool. I love them on my MTB. I really like the color options of the cross check, I need to find one used or on sale. I really have no clue what size to get, it seems like the effective top tube size is longer than road bikes? Is that true? I ride a 56cm bike and the reach is always a little stretched out, I'd prefer this bike to be a little under sized so should I go for the 54cm because the effective top tube is closer to 56cm like on a road bike?

Nope the Jake is geared more towards the commuter, same as the Crux.
The Kona Major Jake is their race rig, & the Jake the Snake just below. These guys don't have disc brakes yet.

Sorry I have no experience with Surly's can't tell you how the geometry is on them.

I should've said Specialized Tricross not Crux.

Check out Specialized new lineup, it has quite a few options with disc brakes.

https://www.specialized.com/ca/en/bikes/road

ie:
Tricross,Secteur,Crux,Awol

Tricross looks cool. I'd prefer steel, I've had aluminum before and didn't like it. The Awol is steel but the frame is $700!

Why? Because steel > aluminum? Not sure I agree. My aluminum CaadX is plenty comfortable but that likely has a lot to do with the wider tires and lower air pressure which is what you will find with most CX bikes regardless of frame material. The LHT or disc model is a loaded touring bike. Sure, you can ride it unloaded but it was built to carry weight. A CX bike is more versatile, will likely handle better and weigh less.

I guess you haven't been following this thread too closely.

1. The op is looking for a 2nd bike to just ride casually.
2. He has 2 CF bikes, 1 of which he's in the process of selling.
3. Read the post before the post I'm quoting you in.

I hear ya! Steel is real, & is a much plusher/comfortable ride.
New tech ALU isn't all that bad IMO, getting better each year.
This is the reason in have the CAAD on my list of bikes.
CAAD, or CF right...

The Surly frameset will cost nearly the same, probably more up here.

That's an Ogre in XXL size, ordered it and had a shop build it for me. it's a bit small for me so still sorting out my fit on it, but very happy with it overall.

Avid BB7 mountains
Cane Creek headset, levers, stem
DT Swiss TK540 rims 36h with XT hubs
40mm Schwalbe Mondials - the rims and tires...I can glide over quite a lot without flinching.
XT drivetrain, and BB
Surly Nice Rack - you could sit someone on it...it's burly.
45NRTH Heiruspecs platform pedals, big for my big feet, stick like glue, hell on shins.

One thing it is not is light, but at 270, when I stand up on this thing and crank, it takes it. It would be an ideal loaded up rough roads frame for most people I would suspect.

Cool cool cool, I've been seeing the crosscheck frameset for around $450 which is still more than I'd like to spend but I have plenty of time to look around for a used on. My friend has a Kona Jake the Snake he's gonna let me borrow to try out. He's a similiar size as me so hopefully I can get a feel for the size on the crossbike geometry.

and I simply disagreed with that pointing out that tires make more of a difference than frame material with respect to comfort.

Of course, none of this is relevant to the OP who doesn't seem to know what he wants.

Correct.
"My" ALU CXer(tank) isn't a CAADX.
I run mine @ 700c x 28 usually for commuting/casual riding, but have it @ 700c x 31now (within UCI regulations).
Can't wait to get my Scandium CXer built up for this season.

My bike are under my screen name if you didn't notice.

Mine ALU road bikes on the other hand are fine for my riding needs right now.

The op is asking for assistance, which may or may not help him in choosing, so let's get back on topic.

Some of the parts on the Felt would work on a new cross bike; some wouldn't. Nice parts on the Felt but most of those parts are not exactly optimized for a bike to use to get groceries and the like (esp. the wheelset). Sell the Felt (even if you have to keep dropping the price) and put that money to work in a new bike. Or keep the Felt as a 2d bike and buy a cheap but good quality used bike for running errands and the like. CL is not a great place to sell a bike like the Felt (as the OP is finding out, I see high dollar used road bikes all the time locally) but it is a solid place to find a used quality bike to use to run errands on.

If I get a frame that is disc brake compatible, I can use my wheelset that came on my Tarmac. They have the centerlock hubs and only weigh about 1550 grams. I think 105 would be great on a crossbike/commuter/light tourer frame, the stem and handlebars that came on the Felt are top notch and super comfy, I think this bike will be great if I can ever grab the right frame. The cassette that is on the rear wheel is 11-28, I could put smaller chainrings on up front if I needed a little more spin on the hills if I'm hauling a trailer.
