Weekend Cycling Ride Reports - August 24/25

Tell us about your cycling adventures this weekend. Where did you ride ... how far ... with whom? Got pics?

Saturday - it's Rowan's and my 5th wedding anniversary this weekend, and since we celebrated our wedding with a century, we figured we should get out for a ride this weekend too. :)

Today we rode 30.42 km. It was about 15C out there, and overcast, although the sun did shine through briefly at one point.

We rode on the bicycles we were riding when we met 10 years ago, and wore our France jerseys ... because we met in France. :)

This was Hotter-n-Hell weekend, and I assume the regular 13,000 people made the pilgrimage to Wichita Falls, Texas, to spin out their 100 miles (several of my friends did). However, four of us went on our own ride and did the Spanish Fort Permanent, about 129 miles. We actually got into a light rain in the afternoon, that was not in the forecast! And we hit some humidity but heat wasn't too bad. So all in all, a good day on the bike.

Something different, though. My stoker is studying for an insurance test, and was reading/studying a chapter of state rules on much of the ride!

102 miles in Wichita Falls. 6:24. Great ride. First HHH for me. Will do it again.

Today, we did a really nice 51.45 km ride on our tandem. :)

It was overcast and a bit breezy, but the temperature was about 14C ... so quite comfortable. And the wattle was in bloom ... a sure sign of spring!

Sun: fastest group ride i've been on so far :) 49mi at 21.4avg :) we were hauling in a really fun group that cooperated nicely. only bad part was a dumbass tried to pass us with oncoming traffic on a blind curve and a few guys went down due to being forced off the road. everyone seemed ok but some wheels got messed up. neither car stopped.

Saturday I did 52mi with the usual club group. I'm getting back to where I'm almost ready to start helping co-lead the group again, 11 months from when I broke my collarbone. The group has gotten faster (as usual) as the year has progressed, I'm happy I made the jump from the lower groups when I did or I don't think I could have made the jump at this point in the year. Route was fairly typical for the area, generally rolling, I got popped during one of the sprints after pushing too hard over the first two hills, thankfully close to the rest stop and was able to recover. Finished with a 17.2 average from a high of 17.6.

This morning rode an easy 22mi ride with a small group, including a couple that rode the Hotter'n Hell Hundred yesterday - so it was very much a conversational pace with good friends and not about the miles or the finishing average.

And Monday ... 5 km of walking. I'm starting to break in a new Brooks, and needed a break from the saddle. :D
