Ask me on March 21st. I am racing mine twice on the 20th.

there's a guy in ur club who normally rides 6 to 10 hours per day. He doesn't work and does serious long distance cycling. He rides a full carbon roubaix. he is looking at getting a new bike as well. He said he loves his roubaix for everything but crits (and tt's i guess). He said the roubaix is great for road races and fast club rides, but he wanted more aggressive geometry for crits. personally, i don't think it would make a big enough diference unless you are a very high level rider. as long as you are comfortable on your bike and in good shape you should be able to race well. Think about this. if you are more comfortable on this bike for long distances, you will be able to train more and do so more comfortably. i would think that at ametuer level racing that would be more useful than a race bike.

I'm surprised he doesn't simply make his bike a bit more agressive. For example, I am on my third stem already, and have put on FSA K-wing bars which have a bigger reach than stock, etc. I'd feel very comfortable racing this machine in a crit - it certainly serves me well in very fast club rides, and I will be using it for two TT's I have entered until I get a dedicated TT machine which I intend to in the near future.

yeah, he's a bit of a gear junkie and i think he's just exagerating, but he has ridden it and i haven't, so i thought i would share anyways. It sounds like he might be buying into marketing hype a little bit

I'll let you know Monday. I have a full carbon Roubaix I'm racing in two crits this weekend.

Iron Chef 03-03-05 07:36 PM

I think Ned Overend does.

I've been shopping around for a new road bike that I'm going to buy in June. I'd finally decided on the Roubaix Pro, so I appreciate the articles. Too bad I still have to wait until June. :(

ned really is the man. he's almost as old as my dad...yet still wins major races. hardcore. I wonder what his training program is...he probably has to be really carefrul not to overtrain. again...hardcore.

I am jealous DB that is the bike I really wanted last year but couldn't justify the cabbage.

I've been saving up for quite a while. Hell, I even cut my golf time in half to help scrape some money together. Just a few more months and I'll have that beautiful carbon vixen workin it just for me. :D

Personally, I'd wait until the new E5 frame with carbon stays and zertz inserts comes out to the general buying public. This frame is going to find it's way into my garage for sure!

Rode the Roubaix Comp to a green jersey and a 4th overall in the Masters class today. The bike handled well in the corners and sprinted fine. This bike is fine for crits or riding all day.
