Basic drop bars - any recommendations?
 

I'm building up a new road bike and I need to pick out bars. I have the standard Cannondale C2 bars on my CAAD10. I can't find anything wrong with them. I'm looking for something in black.

Advice?

There are so many variations...if you like the ones you have, order a pair of those. Be glad you aren't in bar limbo.

Gotta try them all.

Eastern carbon bars in whatever size, drop, and anatomical configuration that works for you are veeeeeerrrrry sweet.

Pivo are my favorite. They are undersized at 25.0 but could be shimmed if you don't ride a french bike. But everyone in the know rides french anyway.

Bars are very personal. But FWIW, I prefer medium drop, classic round bars. See the 3T Rotundo, Ritchey WCS Classic, and the ITM 300 as examples.

There must be very few people in the know. And apparently, none of them are aware that time is passing them by.

I just went from the Ritchey ergonomics (Scott branded) that came with my bike to FSA Energy Compact. Flattish tops, compact bend. Apparently the same design as the FSA Wing Pro Compact (as stated by the FSA rep I called). Arts Cyclery had the best price, plus a coupon I dug up (just under $60 with free shipping).

I don't mind a shallow-drop, short-reach ergo bar, but I've fallen in love with my Deda Newton Shallow handlebars. Classic bend style. I find I like all of the positions on the classic bar better than the typical ergo bar. I've also found I'm more comfortable on a 40cm (c-c) bar than a 42cm (c-c) bar. My shoulder width would put me on a 42, but it just feels like I'm reaching out to hug the ground.

Considering ordering the S-Works Classic handlebar, seeing as it will drop some weight and it drops a few millimeters off of the reach. Also interested in Fizik's new "Snake" style bars. MIght have to give them a try if the price/weight is right.

Bottom line, play around with various shapes/dimensions. I purchased my Deda's off of Ribble. $60 for a set. Considering they sell for $60 on eBay used, I decided to pick a pair up and try them. They haven't left the bike yet. Before finding this price, I was considering purchasing a set of used 3T Pro Rotundos.
