Anyone familar with Litespeed Catalyst?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone familar with Litespeed Catalyst?

I found a Litespeed Catalyst locally for sale. I can't find any information on litespeed's web site about this bike.

Was this model known as a durable frame?

Any input is appreciated.

I bought my Catalyst in '97. Since then I have problably put 30k miles on it. Everything from Time trials, Road Races and Double Centuries. The bike was the low end Litespeed at the time and they discontinued it for the '98 season (I think).

I really like the bike. It is comfortable, it handles and decsends well. I have had no problems with it at all. I replaced the original 600 Ultegra components with Dura Ace a couple of years ago. The only change that I am considering is replacing the stock Kestral fork with a Reynolds.

It isn't the lightest and latest high zoot bike, but I kinda like that.

Remember, it's the motor that counts.

auburnrider is right - the Catalyst was one of Litespeed's entry level models. It probably had straight gauge tubing, rather than butted. Also, it's geometry was rather neutral, meaning that there was nothing too radical about the steering geometry and it did not have really short chainstays like the Ultimate or really long ones like the Classic. It was desinged with an "all around" geometry, similar to the Vortex or Tuscany. As far as the durability is concerned, I wouldn't have any worries. Litespeed is a great manufacturer.

Thanks for the input!

If the bike checks out, I am going to use it for my winter trainer and wet weather bike. It sounds like a good option.

The seller wants $600.00 with no apparent upgrades (original ultegra components). Does that sound reasonable?

I am going to check out the bike first hand after work today.

I would have to $600 is preaty good I got my old litespeed frame for $400 so $600 for a complete bike with some older equipment isn't bad at all
