Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How do you bend a chainring tooth ?

This year my Zipp hub shell cracked.
A couple of years ago busted a rim in a race and Open Pro rim developed cracks at spoke holes.

I evidently need to HTFU, I am not riding hard enough. I am a Clyde (6' 225#) and I'm not breaking parts (saddle???) or bending chainrings.

Neuvation saddle, the cheap plastic shell cracked. The San Marco, a to rail snapped. Folding over a tooth on a chain ring, clearly I haven't been making the requisite offerings to the Cycling gods. Crank arms, well I do dish out gobs of power

That's what I was thinking. I'm 6'4"/240, reasonably strong, and I haven't broken anything in years if you don't count tubes. If I were tearing stuff up, though, I'd look at my maintenance and my riding technique.

Umm, none. But most of my parts are over 20 years old. I guess if they haven't broken yet, they're not going to.

I guess, I am a wimp. I have been riding since 2006, am 6'3" and my weight has been between 232 and 205 and I have never broken anything. Flat tires is about it.

two. a neuvation m28 aero front wheel where i discovered cracks at 11 of 16 spoke holes. also got into someone's rear derailleur and ripped out 8 spokes in my backup front wheel. much to my surprise, my bike shop rebuilt the wheel and it seems good as new.

I stripped the threads on an old aluminum headset on a mountain bike. It wouldn't stay tight and eventually, it just gave up.

Other than some spokes, I can't think of anything else that has broken in over 40 years of riding.

Me too. I'm about the same height and weight and all I broke this year was a rear rim. That was when I hit a pothole at 35mph with a loaded pannier.

Oh yes, a gear cable snapped on a ride and I wore out a set of brake pads.

Recently cracked Zipp 188 hubshell on Firecrest 303's. At first I thought it was just a broken spoke, but saw the bad news on further inspection. Fortunately, it is warrantied.

Shimano brifters (105)
Bar tape

Not so bad but cost was $240 to replace the above I wished I had not had to fork out.

This year, so far: nothing, unless you count tires and a chain. Wearing out isn't breaking. Wheelset is holding up better than I expected, given the piss-poor roads around here.

Makes up for last year when I broke a wheel and an entire bike (cracked seat tube).

Never had a hub of any other brand break in all these years.

1) Reynolds Assault - spoke front wheel. crashed 3 times in past w/o a problem. dialed it up to 400 and snapped one. having both wheels relaced currrently
2) Reynolds 46DVT - hit a pothole in a race at 40mph and caused a small irregularity in the braking surface. I emailed Reynolds and told them I intended to superglue it back together. They said send it back to us and we will replace the rim. ok.
3) Garmin 500- little gromits that hold the computer in the twist mount broke off. currently held on with duct tape to barfly mount.
4) Capo kit i bought from excel boulder pretty much dissolved in the washing machine after 3 cycles. exchanged for Castelli San Remo Speedsuit (big thumbs up to this)
5) front deraileur cable on crit bike somehow got frayed and is down to several wires now re-enforced with duct tape. My season is done so I'm just going to recable it.

One Dura Ace 7800 chain snapped on me
I thrashed two spokes on my rear wheel
spoke nipples pulled through the cheap alloy rim on a powertap wheel I'm borrowing.

That's it.
