Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chapeau.
A cousin came for a visit and after a while we heard a commotion in the bathroom and we found his two kids were playing around taking turns taking a drink out of the "water fountain"!

The term "cockpit" predates airplanes by a few hundred years as it was originally a sailing term. As both bicycles and automobiles entered the scene well before airplanes, and the term has been used for both (as well as boats and motorcycles), perhaps it's use is more appropriate for bicycles than for airplanes. Not trying to be an arse, just thought you might like to know.
I personally like brevity, and appreciate being able to communicate with one word instead of many.

IMO:

"Kit"
"Parcours"
"Gruppetto"
"Bunch/peloton/pack"
"HC" for "hors categorie"
"domestique"
"soigneur"

...these are all British or European terms for bike-related or racing-related stuff. However, I feel using them is entirely appropriate for Americans to use these terms, it is what these things are called. "Kit" may be borderline, but "jersey and shorts" is clumsy and "outfit" is a little cutesy. At least "kit" is nice a short and describes what you're talking about. Also, lots of other sports have specific terms for the uniforms.

Having said that, using "bidon", "rain cape", "ramp", "gruppo" or "mech" is taking it one step too far. Other established, mainstream American English names exist for these things. Trying to use the Euro equivalent is pretentious.

^clever.

I like tossing french phrases around. Sounds snobby, and fits in the cycling scene. As in "I'm new to the cycling scene". What? Are we filming a 1960s beach movie here?

C'est la guerre.

Said recently to a friend whose wife was jumpy riding in a relaxed group. "Slip a Valium into her bidon".

I like "Rad", cause that movie "crushed" it when I was a kid!
I watched it early this year, & realized how bad it was.
"Epic Fail".

I dunno if it's been mentioned, but I don't like it when Americans call tiyers "tyres". That's why we declared war on Germany at Pearl Harbor.

Bidons and tyres. I'll get over it.

Is "tiyers" like a mix between tyers and tires? Sounds like an identity issue.

He is spelling out the two syllable incorrect pronunciation, I believe.

I grew up in Europe but live in America, and only use the bolded terms of the above.

I might occasionally use "ramp" in a conversation where I've already said "hill," "climb," "slope," "speedbump," "obstacle" and "mutherfugger" and I'm running out of synonyms.
