So let me get this straight, Anything TREK is forbidden here?

I know there are lots of very well prepared athletes posting here. I think the knowledge base here is amazing. I live in a small town in South Ga. The closest bike shops are 50 miles away and ALL are Trek dealers. I like my Madone 5.2. Can I find acceptance here? I am not a troll. I am 47 years old, weigh 194 lbs and try to ride 80-100 miles a week, at least during the warm months, which is most of them in S. GA.
Rob:)

The Facepalm Potential in this thread is considerable.

Carry on.

Trek makes great bikes and I love their new madones. I think you pay to much for the name though and it is easier to find bang for your buck with another brand. Their project bike customization is also awesome.

DaveWC 09-08-13 06:03 AM

Who cares if someone doesn't like your chosen bike brand? I ride Trek and love it. No one has ever commented about my Treks to my face. Maybe they have tried but I couldn't hear them because they were so far behind me.

rpenmanparker 09-08-13 06:08 AM

Trek is a solid major market brand along with Specialized, Giant, Cannondale and others. People can pretend to find significant differences among them, but if they are there, they are buried way down in the very fine print. It would be dumb to inconvenience yourself in order to align with the cultists who post here. Besides why does participating here have to have anything to do with the bike your ride? Who needs to bring it up? And once you feel experienced, the internet cycling market place allows you to break free of any limitations of small town existence. You're good.

I am not the guy who is offended or cares what some one else thinks. I just see very little mention of Trek/Bontreagerwhatever parts and components. I agree, whatever gets you through your turn up front is what matters. I am just looking for info and experiences on equipment similar to what I have.

I don't think you've spent much time here.

I like it. I didn't know Treks went fast in Canada as well.

shelbyfv 09-08-13 06:34 AM

If you mostly want to read about/discuss Treks, I think the RBR forum has a sub specifically for Treks....

Campag4life 09-08-13 06:36 AM

OP...ride more and drop more weight. :)
Trek makes great bikes. I prefer the Domane to the Madone.

Trek makes good quality bikes. Bontrager stuff is fine but I've never been very excited about it. It's pricey and there is plenty of good competing equipment and parts out there.

10 Wheels 09-08-13 06:37 AM

Trek is just a name on a frame.

Blue Belly 09-08-13 06:45 AM

No need to be ashamed. Most carbon bikes are made in the same part if the world. Probably the same factory, in many cases. The real difference is the paint, name & geometry. Ride your bike & enjoy it, if it works for you! Anyone give you crap, tell them the same hands built their bike.

Kai Winters 09-08-13 07:28 AM

Yes.

don't know why the title says something is forbidden... I read the TOS and all seemed fine to me.

rebel1916 09-08-13 07:50 AM

Sorry Lance, tell your story walking.

eja_ bottecchia 09-08-13 08:03 AM

Oy vey. Another "why do people hate my (fill in the blank)?" thread.

Lordy Lord!

ol rob 09-08-13 08:43 AM

You are correct. Forbidden does seem to be a little strong. I am glad to see I am not alone. All is well.Rob

Smokehouse 09-08-13 08:45 AM

AnyTHING has snobs/bigots/jerks, buy what you like and ride it...lots. Don't be a fanboy and claim your brand of choice is the supreme best in the world and you'll be fine. If someone hates on your stuff, tell them to shove thier pointless opinions up their ass (unless you're making some claims that it is better than everything...in that case you get what's coming to you.)

I ride a Specialized...with the guys I ride with, few of them ride the "big name bikes"...most ride smaller name, more exclusive manufacturers. The "this brand vs that brand" topic never comes up...ever, nor does it need to. When you hit the road and start competing with each other (or yourself)...it is 100% irrelevant what name is on your stuff.

surgeonstone 09-08-13 08:47 AM

yes!!!

+1...I heard you can get one painted so it doesn't say "TREK" anywhere...

Well, not compared to Cervelos!

Hey - I hate Cervelos too!
