05 Performance shorts any good?
I have Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor shorts and am looking at the latest Performance catalog. Anyone have any of their new line of shorts? The 2-fer prices are pretty good and I want to get a pair or 2 and use them for daily training and save my PI's for club rides.
Whaddya think?

I have two pairs of Performance bibs. Two models are several years apart, old one is still good but the leg grippers are almost all gone, elastic band stretched a little but I kind of like it that way. I can't compare them to other brand names because those are all the bibs I bought. I used to have Wind Skin(no longer sold) I didn't see a big difference between Performance bibs. I don't know about 05 model but from what I experienced in the past, Performance are generally very good in quality(much better than Nashbar, but they make good gloves). If you have a time to wait, the price of bibs sometimes come down to below $50.-.

Over time I have switched almost exclusively to the Performance Elite Multi-L (just below their top of the line Ultra) because of the low price (when on sale) and the chamois really works well for me. They have been durable also. I highly recommend them. I had bad luck with the lower priced Performance shorts and I may have to try their top of the line Ultra which I would bet would be just as good as your PI's.

I really like my 04 performance Ultras bibs. Not yet tried their 05.
For comparasion sakes I also have Bergamo and Bellwether bibs and the perfomance are just as good for me. I have worn my perfomance bibs on a century and thought they were great for the whole ride

I've looking at the Performance shorts also, but I've found out that I personally don't do well buying on line; I need to try them on, not all makes taylor them to fit your body well. Giordana works well for me, Pearl Izumi flattens my butt too much, not a good thing for example.
I go by what fits me well after I put them on.

I've had some Performance tights and shorts for a couple of months now. Their prices are hard to beat and so far all has been well for me. I've done two centuries in the tights so far and they were nice and comfortable.

Some cheaper shorts I've tried on the chamois may as well be a maxi pad with wings . I like a chamois that you can actually feel under your butt when you're sitting on it.

I've got their Century shorts and have had good luck so far. What makes the chamois in the Elite any different?
Thanks,
Sheldon

Personaly a gel pad gets way to hot in warm weather and does not works as good for me at wicking away sweat.

The Century shorts I bought do not have the gel pad. I had read enough comments about them here on the Forum that I decided to go with the standard pad. That works fine but I do notice that the Elite seems to have either a thicker or cushier pad. Hard to tell in the pix so that is why I asked the question.

ah did not know Performance had a century short that did not have a gel pad.
Not sure of the difference then. I know I have tried on the elite shorts and just did not like them as much as the ultra.

It's definitely a different chamois, different material, different thickness and I think more durable. If you have the most recent Performance catalog (you can order a free one at www.performancebike.com ), it shows pictures of all the different chamois'. The Ultra looks to have an even better chamois than the Elite so that is why I'm thinking about trying it out too (for a little more money).

I have three pair of the 04 Ultras and ride in them almost every day. They're very comfortable and seem to be holding up well. As you've heard, you need to stay away from the gel chamois. They're worse than "bad". I'm waiting for the Ultras to go on sale so I can buy some more.

I like my Performance Elite Mult-L shorts better then my Pearl attack shorts. They seem to fit me better and the chamois is just as good. There 05 shorts are suppose to be even better. My next shorts will be the Multi-L from performance when they go on sale.

I think tht 70 is a little bit too mucho for what i want to spend, I would completely do it if i had the money but i am going to go for the best bang for the buck, so i think the ultra bibs are the way to go.

I bought the Ultras for 39.00 last year. They may not go on sale until the Spring buying rage is over, but it pays to watch for mark downs with Performance. I paid 55.00 for my first pair and just did frequent laundry until I could pick up some on sale. That said, another 10.00 isn't too much to pay if you spend a lot of time in the saddle.
