Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Purchasing First Road Bike

Hello Everyone and my apologies up front if I violate some code of conduct. Anyway, I am a mountain biker and have recently done several road rides for around 50 miles a trip on my mountain bike. While it has been great it has really gotten me into getting a road bike now. I have two fabulous LBS I frequent and they both have what appears to be a great deal for me on two different rides. I am not very well educated on road bikes and would like some folks opinions as the way to go. Both bikes are roughly $2000 so price is pretty much the same. If you would be so kind as to let me know your thoughts on which would be the better choice I would be thankful. They are as follows:

2013 Jamis Zenith Comp

2011 Trek Gary Fischer Cronus Pro (last year before this model became a cyclocross bike)

They are both new and unused.

Try to get a brief ride on both of them. Then pick whichever you like better. Really.

There's a site on the Canondale Synapse where it shows the frame compared to an endurance bike and a race bike. The frame geometry for that model is between both. Just to give you an idea on different styles...

the fisher has ultegra but its 2 years older.

this years ultegra becomes next years 105??

I personally dont like jamis (no real reason) but everyone has a trek

Assuming you've ridden both and like them equally as much, Id buy from the lbs who's going to do more for you. tell them both about your situation. make them win your business from the other guy.
