This was just a quick draw up, so I didn't put much thought into it. I think something like this would go nicely with the jersey. A corresponding color stripe on the leg to match the jersey you go with would be nice in my opinion.

Sean,

I like what you and your team are doing. I agree with Burnette though, will the sky blue or pink be the only options?

bianchi10 11-21-13 10:29 PM

Pink is where its at boyz!

Well, we have been making and I have been wearing the same white/ red/ black themed jerseys for what...... 5 years now?? I need some different colours before I go crazy. Having said that though, I know where you guys are coming from. Baby blue/ pink are just the 'it' colours now, so we will go with these for now. In the event that we do another run, we may still go to another accent colour.

For the bibs, they will remain colourless as they will be used to match all the jerseys, we don't intend to stock different coloured bibs as we don't sell many.

I like the designs so far. I would just like to suggest
some reflective bits for riders like me who bike at nite.
Just a suggestion, carry on. :)

When you are talking about guitars, at least, the color is referred to as "Man Salmon".

soulbike 11-22-13 06:01 PM

Yeah, the zippers are reflective on the back. The bibs also have a reflective tag/ logo.

Pink And Plae Blue Lagoon

Well then, you are just a tease, good sir. You string is along, make the kit sharper with each rendition, then pull the rug out
from under us with "it" colors. "It" quickly turns to "ain't it", that's the problem with fad fashion, tis fleeting.
Very well then, let the pretty in pink pastel purveyors and the boyish li'l baby blue buyers have their day, I guess.
But then make the kit we all really want, in the colors of your frames and wheels, silver, white, red and black. You know, that stuff you sell
and people use their money to buy.
Those colors have held true for five years for a reason. There will be closets full of hardly worn pink stuff in guys closets next year.
And some of it will be "it kit".
And by the way, the new "it" color is orange. Or saffron, for the more cultured among us. http://richardsachscyclocross.com/

I dont think you are trying to come across rude, but thats how I read it. He already told you what colors he was going to go with and you reply with, "But then make the kit we all really want, in the colors of your frames and wheels, silver, white, red and black. You know, that stuff you sell and people use their money to buy. Those colors have held true for five years for a reason. You are essentially telling him that his design sucks and nobody will buy it and the few that do, will regret their purchase and let them hang unused in their closet. Orange is not the IN color. COLOR is in, meaning colorful kits of all kinds are in right now. PINK is a classic cycling color. Also, dont speak for everyone by saying "WE". some of us welcome a change from the red and black.

As I said, I dont think it was intentional, but thats how it comes across to me.

Exit, Stage Left

Well, he asked for opinions on an internet forum and that's what he got. You need to take yourself out of the equation.
How you feel about anything has no bearing on forum memebers expressing themselves.
And seriously dude, as much as you "fully express" yourself in the "Hot Or Not" threads, you are hardly in a position
of calling anybody out on anything. It's not about you, really.
I love the design of the latest Soul kit, they did good. They have chosen an "it" color choice, I stated my opinion.
Which I have a right to do. The fact that you are interjecting yourself in this is on you.
Any seller of goods on the net will experience much harsher diatribes from far more people, so said sellers will do well
to have tough hide. I am one man, if Soul doesn't cater to me, it's no big deal, they will do fine.
But they do have to sell enough of them, and I wish them well.
So back to Soul, as I said, make the pastels for those who like it. If later on you offer red/black/silver, heck, even orange, I'll
be there with money. You must be doing something right, you have a guy getting upset over someone's
opinions of color of your kit that hasn't even been released yet.

bianchi10 11-22-13 10:00 PM

Ok broski. I'm not gonna get into a pissing match with you here. The hot r not thread is a bit different than this IMO and I have never said anything was about me, ever. You are of course entitled to your opinion, especially since he asked openly. You gave yours on which you liked best, I just thought it came across in a way you not have intended is all. No big deal though mate. Cheers

Burnette 11-22-13 10:16 PM

Ha!

Well, you see that's what happens when you want to be the "rude" hall monitor, it will be someone elses turn to wear the badge and they will call you out. Ha!
Let people express themslves just as you do, just let them be and this problem disappears, so cheers back at you, it's all good here.
One thing most of us seem to agree with Soul, is that your current design is solid. You could almost force me into the sky blue, the design is so good.
Keep us posted on the progress with pictures of the process and finally the finished goods.

I think the center pocket is proportioned wrong and too small. I sometimes put a 3rd water bottle in there. It's also used for my park season pass (rigid plastic, 9"x4") iPhone, work badge, wallet, keys, or battery pack for helmet mount light. The side pockets are for things I access more frequently during the ride such as food/gel; or temporary storage when I am off the bike and don't want to leave the Garmin or lights sitting on the unattended bike. The larger items would not be comfortable in a side pocket no matter how large it was. That pump pocket uses up valuable real estate for those that just use CO2.

I like a slightly lowered collarline in the front. I get some chafing from the zipper on some of my jerseys.

soulbike 11-23-13 05:23 AM

Good point, just revised it such that centre pocket is slightly larger than the side pockets. I personally put my tool bag into the centre pocket as well. Funny enough I only use my side pockets for keys.

Revised bib design based on manufacturers capabilities. Basically they could do a stretch fabric for the hem which is grippier and more comfortable, so we changed the design to suit it:

Here is mock-up of what the first jersey and bibs will look like.

Blue Belly 11-23-13 05:57 AM

It's looking a lot better. The colors are a bit on the feminine side but, that easily alternated. I think a big version of your wings logo would look great on the right shoulder, maybe a giant one in light grey as a background on the back. Of course all of these are in my head & might not translate well on the actual garment. I also like to throw things in at at an off angle, in a subtle way. Just mixed things up a bit. Sorry for the rambling, just thinking out loud/throwing ideas

If pink and blue are "it" colors that are having a moment, then they must have been having a moment for the last 33 years because they've been "in" ever since I was born.

Jus' sayin'

Also...this is kind of fun:

Those bibs rock, white stripe will go with any color, I'm in with money on those for sure.

Well, samples came and we weren't very thrilled with the design. So back to our roots:

2015 will be our 10th anniversary for SOUL bikes! I can't believe it has been that long, it's just been crazy.

Thank you all for your support. To commemorate the event we will be producing some 10th anniversary kits.

They will be grey to highlight the fact that we started and still design titanium frames, and the red accents have been the brand colour since the inception.

Some accents of blue/ yellow/ red/ white is to pay homage to our Malaysian and Singaporean roots.

Interesting. I liked V3 and V4. You had a concept and refined it, but then it seemed like you went too far and V5 just seemed like capitulation to convention - something one can get anywhere, from anyone. Boring. This latest is something new. Very distinctive. Not particularly attractive, but I can imagine they'd have a lot of appeal to fans of the Soul brand.

Generally speaking, with blocks of color, jerseys always look best with the lighter, brighter color on top, over the shoulders and darker and less saturated colors on bottom. Also, I prefer a 3/4 zip - don't like the way full zips bunch up at the bottom.

soulbike 09-17-14 03:13 PM

Well, it's not how you described it. We actually made V3 and also V5 samples but they turned out horribly. Sometimes what you thing will look good like your formulaic light colors on top doesn't really work in real life.

So we keep changing till we get something that works. The anniversary kit is a completely different design to the other ones, not sure I would go so far as saying it's not particularly attractive, mayb to you it isn't since it is a subjective thing.

I'm not a fan of the bulge at the stomach either but if you race a lot and ride in hot climates like here, the full sip is actually very useful.

Being what they call a "design professional," namely an architect, I'm vey interested in this phenomenon of drawing something and it not turning out as expected when actually produced. What was so horrible about the designs? I think the templates don't take form fitting into account very well, and lines and composition often don't work nearly as well once the design is put on a body.
Regarding the anniversary jersey, I think it would appeal to fans of your brand. But if someone doesn't know or get that it is so self-referential, one would be hard pressed to appreciate the combination of colors, fonts and composition on purely visual merits. It is obviously trying to say something specific (or pretending to), indifferent to the comprehension of an uninitiated eye. It's not bad looking, but it lacks broad appeal. That's all I meant.

soulbike 09-17-14 05:41 PM

Funny because I'm an architect by trade as well. And although I wouldn't call myself a design professional, I do have to recognize that designing buildings and jerseys don't have much of a correlation.

The original designs looked good on paper. They don't translate well because the human body is not flat. Often times you don't see the entire word or the combination of colors you planned to see in the 2d drawing. Fonts also get stretched out and are not straight when worn.

I'm personally a fan of mapei team kits, and I can also see the appeal of Rapha, both very different aesthetics,, so I still feel that jersey designs are very very subjective. Having said that I own a couple of sponge bob square pants jerseys and can't say they lack broad appeal...
