First Frame?

Hi there,

I am basically brand new to cycling. I have been riding a single speed bike for only one week, I have put about 125 miles on it.
I'm thinking I could buy a frame and start building it up, as I have a very limited income (College.) While doing that, I can still ride my current bike.

Anyway, I was hoping for ideas from all of you as far as what frame I should get.
Since I am brand new, I can't offer much for what I would like in the frame, I apologize for that.

My friend got a Soma Smoothie, and built it up, and is riding it now. He loves it.
I guess something along those lines as far as cost.

Thanks! :thumb:

If you are cash strapped and know little about what you do and do not like, building a frame up from scratch is not for you. There is no way to do this with all new parts as cost effectively as a big manufacturer. Also you are asking what frame. You won't know what other parts to choose either. Now is sale season. Look for a good complete bike deal pit together by a knowledgeable bike company. When you have more money and well informed custom preferences, that is the time to custom build up a frame.

I don't know, maybe a grand, which is probably a little low, so I may have to wait until I can build up some more.
I don't mind used, at all, I sort of assumed it was going to be used.

Great bike! Too much for me at the moment.

$1000 buys a LOT of used road bike. How tall are you? What specifically will be your needs- commuting, sport, booty call with the GF who lives up a big hill...?

Sport. Someday I hope to commute by bike, but I can't at the moment. When I am able to, I want to restore a vintage bike.
My girlfriend lives on flat ground. :p

I am 5'7" and 3/4 to be exact, right now I am riding a 52cm.
