Creaky cleat/pedal
I thought I had a creaky pedal so I took them off, cleaned the spindles, re-greased and installed. It didnt help. Today I found that when Im clipped in and I move my foot left and right within the confines of the float THATS when I hear the creak. I took pressure off the pedal and repeated the action and it still creaks so it has something to do with the cleat contacting the pedal.
Thoughts on how to remedy this? I cant see using grease in this instance...LOL. They are Shimano 105 pedals with yellow cleats. Thanks. |
I had the exact same issue. Cleaned cleats with Q-tips soaked in WD40. All is quiet again.

WD40 works. Silcone spray is perhaps better. Rub a little candle wax on them. etc...

I bet its on the left cleat too ? I went through two sets from Performance and finally spent a little more money and upgraded to Ultegra.

You could try filing away all the rough torn edges of the cleat, so it's all smooth again.

Velocity The cleats are new so nothing to file. I'll try cleaning them. |
Make sure cleats are on tight.
Try rubbing a crayon or a candle along the pedal where it makes contact with cleat, |
I thought I had a creaky cleat but it turned out that the cranks were loose in the connection to the bottom bracket. You might want to check the drivetrain in general.

Are you sure the cleat is securely fastened to the shoe? I just had a squeaky cleat, because the bolts had loosened up from the force of clipping in and out. Those bolts need to be tight.

This should explain what you need to do; it's very simple and worked for me.

the yellow cleats have the most float (9 degrees I think), could this be causing the creak?
|
On my gosh. The same annoying thing happens with my left pedal. It only happens when I accelerate from a 0 velocity, but when it squeals - man does it turn heads...
Im going to try and greasing it with WD40, Cheers |
