help! cateye computer hard to install!
 

hey folks.

being a fairly new road biker, I'm having trouble installing my new cateye wireless computer (CC-CD300DW). Does anyone have this model and can offer some tips for installing it on my bike? Holy Moly! The manual's too hard for me to follow.

I wanna get up and riding with it this weekend, but mounting the wireless device is holding me back. any tips or tricks?

Its pretty easy...the model you have is easier than the Astrale 8 which has two separate sensors...both your cadence and wheel speed sensors are integrated into one dual channel RF pod. Mount the computer on the bars and then the sensors on the bottom chainstay and you are good. Just adjust the position of each sensor within 5mm for good pick up. A hint is to cinch down the tie wraps with flat nose pliers and then snip them off to get a good secure fitment of the sensor base to the frame and magnet to the crank arm.
A piece of cake really. If you struggle, your bike shop can hook you up for a nominal fee.

Dear Sleepless in Seattle....

First of all, I'm guessing it's the transmitter that you're fighting with. They give you a plastic zip-tie sort of strap device to hold it on, and you're having trouble getting it to line up correctly with the magnet,

OR, you got it on, but it's too far from the magnet.
OR, you can't get the magnet onto your spoke.


Second of all, it takes a minimum of three hands and a pint of Guiness to accomplish this.

Since I'm in Michigan, all I can tell you to do it be patient.
also know that some of the newer carbon fibre forks are so oddly shaped that they dont accomodate the transmitter.

When all else fails, take it to your LBS (Local Bike Shop).
If you bought it on line, take it to your LBS and apologize for buying it on line and then ask them for help.

And I thought my CatEye WIRING was tough......hmmmm!

Mount the speed and cadence sensor on the left side of the bike opposite of the drive side. You'll want to mount it fairly close to the bottom bracket. Next mount the magnets on the wheel and left crank arm. Before securing the zip tie on the crank arm make sure the cadence works properly be spinning the crank backwards and see if the computer starts showing a reading. Once you have the cadence working then work on the speed sensor. Also you can adjust the spacing of the pick up arms by loosening the screw and rotating the arm as needed. Just be sure to tighten the screw once you have the pick up arms where you want them.

I am pleased to hear that there is someone more mechancially challenged than me! I found the installation to be quick and very straight forward following the manual. BTW, the on-line manual which is on the cateye sight is a bit easier to read than the paper one.
