Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

boa closure road cycling shoes

SO I did a search and couldn't find a general cycling shoe thread and thought chances of finding "boa" were slim. So could anyone thats used boa closures on cycling shoes speak to the reliability/sturdiness. I read a review of the s-works shoes on the specialized bikes site and some criticism about them not holding up. I do like the way they feel when I tried them on. I presently the typical ratchet and velcro straps.

Interested in hearing.

I have about 3500 miles on my S-works shoes this first year. Never had a problem with the boa closure (and they do sell replacements if needed). Most comfortable shoe I've ever had.

I should say that I've used boa on my snowboard boots for years and years, with no problems (and lots of use), albeit, it's a beefier system.

I have S works (previous version) and I love them. The BOA broke down on one of them but I went to their website and they provide replacements for free. Got 4 replacements. Used one and have 3 just in case. All free, very good customer service from BOA.

Go try them out but try many of them. SIDIS are good too, Bont etc.

I have the exact shoes pictures by the op… the boa is wonderful. I have the previous years as well… I like the dials much better on the 2013's.

I had the plastic sheath around the cable strip and jam the system on some Lake MTB shoes. BOA provided replacements for free. I had some Lake road shoes that were problem free.

Thanks guys, the warranty support boa sounds good so that's some fear alleviated!
I'll look into the various boa equipped shoes in the spring when I'm due a new pair.

Just a slight aside. Here's a good video I got on shoe fitting. I'm going to try some insoles on my next pair.

Currently have Boas on 2011 S-works shoe. Had to replace it this summer because the mechanism became loose enough to adjust with a single finger. Replacements were easy to source and easy to install. The mechanism feel strong again.

Me four. I imagine all my future shoes will use the same style closure, I like them that much. Super easy to dial in more/less tension while you're on the road, and after 8000mi on a single pair of S-works shoes I've had no boa related problems. Shoes still holding up nicely.

i also wear specialized recreational shoes.

Ive got about 8k miles on my Specialized S works and never had an issue. I prefer the Boa system over traditional straps
