Mega millions new bike

Planning on winning mega millions tonight and gonna buy a new road bike. What should I get? What would you get?

DaveWC 12-17-13 06:23 PM

I'd book a flight to Italy to meet with Dario Pegoretti and get him to build a bike equipped with Campy Super Record EPS.

dralways 12-17-13 06:27 PM

I'd walk in all the the bike shops within 100mi radius wearing a gold chain with about 15-20grand in hundreds as the pendant, test ride overnight (non refundable deposit if necessary) every top of the line bike and then buy the few that feel the best. After about a month of toying around I'd sell off all but my favorite.

I guess that kind of does and kind of doesn't answer the question...? It may sound irrational but that's an IRRATIONAL amount of money!

Edit: ^ This or just buy Lance's old bike and call it a day.

Sorry, but you're not winning it. I am. I'll be getting a Lynskey Ti frame with Dura Ace Di2 and some clinchers that are both light and strong (because I won't have to pick cheap). Might not be terribly extravagant but it's what I'd want.

Oh and a full-time SAG wagon driving behind me, diverting all the texting drivers away from me.

Edit: What about what bike would you SELL? I'd sell my commuter because I wouldn't be needing it anymore!

All of them.

thehammerdog 12-17-13 06:56 PM

I would go see calfee have a mt bike built, road bike, tribike, tandem and a CX all custom fit with matching kits, helmets and a new BMW 5 series wagon all wheel drive.
then try to lose 20lbs

BoSoxYacht 12-17-13 07:01 PM

I'd probably pick up another classic Italian steel, and throw Sacha White a bunch of money for a nice piece of rideable art.

All the money in the world won't make me 20 years younger, and a high tech bike won't make me faster.

I've heard of people winning the lottery and buying so many great cars that they then spend large portions of their time with service people who care for and maintain their cars. Sometimes more stuff... means less free time. I wouldn't want to use my lottery winnings to become my own bicycle fleets full time mechanic.

As much as I'd like a new race worthy carbon fiber ultra-light go faster. If I am honest I have to admit my entry level alloy 24 speed is better suited for my old body than a pricier bicycle would be. I do think I'd spend some money on WHERE I ride though. I certainly wouldn't be waiting for the snow to melt!

Both of these.

I'd also have a Time RXR S, and I'd like to have one of Jens' personal Madones from this past TdF, I loved the toothpaste color and he and I are about the same height and proportions. Too bad his bike would laugh at me the second I start to pedal.

Parlee Z-Zero custom with Campy SR-EPS

BillyD 12-17-13 08:08 PM

Steel is real.

Gjc985 12-17-13 08:12 PM

I was thinking parlee or cervelo rca full red group with srm and zipp wheelset

darb85 12-17-13 08:20 PM

S-Works Roubaix with DI2 and one with Red and one with Disc Brakes... Yeah...that should do...

Me too. I'll use some of my winnings to buy my way to the front of the wait list too.

Even if I won the mega million.. I doubt I could justify purchasing a full Dura-ace gruppo over Ultegra..

Exactly.

The latest and greatest plastic bike out there won't make me any stronger or faster, but a beautiful Vanilla would be nice.

the fly 12-17-13 08:43 PM

Just get you a tandem and hire Lance to ride you around. He can't have a whole lot to do nowadays.

caloso 12-17-13 08:48 PM

I would make a huge donation to the local velodrome project and engage Steve Rex to build me a track bike.

spdntrxi 12-17-13 08:49 PM

Look 695 aerolight w/ Campy SR-EPS v2.. I'll save some money by reusing my Enve 3.4's :)

mLuMaN83 12-17-13 09:03 PM

Dude, if I won the lottery, I'de buy a Felt F5, Specialized Tarmac SL4, and I'de deck out my Allez sport for the fun of it. Then I'de buy the bikes that really make me happy, Motocross bikes. Man, do I miss racing hare scrambles! One day I will get back into it.
