What's on your cycling bucket list? Bike rides to do before you die.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's on your cycling bucket list? Bike rides to do before you die.

Anyone else bored in the office today? I wrote this blog up a while ago on the places I wanted to cycle before I die.

https://decaironman-training.com/2013...ingbucketlist/

Any riders got some other suggestions?

You want to go to the Long Distance forum ... several of the people there have done some of the rides you mention, especially the Furnace Creek 508 and RAAM.

I've done a lot of adventurous rides over the years ... but going forward, I've got doing a cycling tour on the 4 Rivers Cycleway in South Korea in mind.

Y'all are way too ambitious for me. I'll settle for a full RAGBRAI and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and I reserve the right to revise the list at a later date.

First of all, this was a fantastic ride and I highly recommend it. (I'd suggest bringing a water purifier, too.)

Second, you have excellent taste. Several of the rides you mentioned are already on my list, but I may have to borrow most of the rest.

I've never been to the Wind River Range, is there pavement there or are you going to take an MTB?

Two weeks in Santa Rosa with my friends and a giant fridge full of good beer.

Revisit the singletrack I used to ride in the Berkshires of MA.

Banff ---> Jasper in the summer.

Take my daughters touring, perhaps in the Great Smokies.

Ride a bike through Times Square in the middle of the night.

Ridiculously luxurious, heavily supported tour through Zurich and northwestern Switzerland. Unbelievably expensive hotels, great food, full spas... but with tough, physically demanding rides.

Massif Central in the summer.

id like to tour los angeles and new york city on bicycle. find someplace to stay for the week in each city, maybe venice beach for l.a. and couch surf in new york and just cruise around the back neighborhoods and do the local stuff. sounds fun.

- Haleakala
- Canadian Rockies
- American Rockies
- pretty much the entire Continental Divide
- Mt. Rainer (RAMROD)
- Pacific Coast (north of SF)
- US cross-country, like RAAM but without the R
- Mt. Evans (+ all the other good rides in Colorado)
- Northeast US
- Belgium
- Italy/France/Spain
- Eastern Europe (all the Slavias)
- UK (especially peak district)
- Australia
- Southeast Asia
- pretty much everywhere outside of LA and SF

this thread made me realize I've never ridden in that many places globally speaking. It might take me my entire life, but hopefully when I'm rich and old I'll still be able to ride a bike.

Alpe d'Huez

Much more realistically.....

Gatlinburg TN to Cherokee, NC through Great Smokey National Park
Trail Ridge Road (Estes Park, CO to the summit and then back)
Blue Ridge Parkway from GA to northern NC border
LA to NY or some other transcontinental route

I am sure that I could come up with plenty more if I spent more time thinking about the topic. But the ones I listed have always had a high place on the bucket list!

I've got a few trips with Backroads picked out over the next few years, because sometimes it is nice to be have someone else worry about everything... I thought I had actually made a decision on the order and this picture of Going to the Sun Road messes that up again. I had decided on the Bryce and Zion Canyons camping trip next, and then Glacier, but now I'm torn again.

The biggest problem with Backroads is the nice catalog that they send you with the trips I can't quite fit in my budget, like the Canary Islands trip, or Bali. Someday I will get in my Gavia pass ride.

I just drove through there with a bike on my roof. If I hadn't been driving for 18 hours straight at that point I would have been tempted to stop and get in a ride. It's on the list of the most beautiful places I've driven through.
