Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It has been very chilly here ... I'm beginning to think we won't get summer this year.

Did 101km yesterday. Was only gonna do 50 but just kept going.

Only 681m of climbing, but I was coastal, and it was almost all in the latter half of the ride.

I tried riding out to Cabrillo National Monument, but when I found out it cost $3 to ride in, I turned around.

All in all, a great first ride of the year. https://app.strava.com/activities/103580178

Did 30 this morning. Nice out. Only 64. Cold weather is coming so may be awhile before I can get back out. When I say cold weather its not cold compared to most, I cant even imagine being where 8086bruce is at, -30 are you kidding me?

I can deal with the heat and humidity all day but not to much in the cold.

I did 25 miles on Friday. It felt GREAT to be on my Roubaix- it just kills the bike I was renting across the board. I did my usual hills and felt surprisingly strong. I didn't do a ton of miles in Palm Springs but what I did was intense.

23 degrees and frosty this morning though... ugh. The shady parts of my routes will be icy.

Well this isnt my first ride of 14 but the most misserable of all years. Right now im sitting on a sidewalk waiting for a second bike to finish my ride. Im in mile 67, 3 flats, it's raining and 44 degrees. My girl is on her way with my steel panasonic so i can make it to the 80 mile mark at least. Seriously pissed and disappointed

I still have not gotten over my x-mas lazyness. I could have gone for a ride today , but I did not manage to get up in time *(had places to be during the day). I need to get back into some sort of routine fast. I have been here before in winter time, and before I know it a month has passes with barely any physical exercise.

The Christmas break is an excellent opportunity to get more active ... whole days for exercise!

Talk about dedication.. what's your tire setup and what'd your stats look like for that disaster of a ride?

I wish that were the case. We had people staying over (that you then have to entertain), people coming over to eat, things to cook, people we needed to visit, places I needed to take the girlfriend to show her I care. The Christmas holidays leave me exhausted (and broke). I went back to work feeling like finally I can relax a little... though new years day and the day after that were good.

Tyre setup is Michellin Pro4 Service course clincher on chinese carbon clinchers. I have a feeling that the 2nd flat was my fault for probably installing the tire in a hurry and pinching the tube. My hands were cold and I was losing my mind. I am lucky the first flat happened in front of my house. The second one happened about 2 miles from my house so it took my girl about 5 minutes to bring me a spare wheel. The spare wheel was the trainer wheel which was already beat up and squared out so it lasted about 5 miles till flatting out.

I had no intentions of changing the tyre again so I just told my fiance that was about 8 miles away in my house to bring a new bike (the panasonic). It took about 20 minutes for here to get to me. Once she got there I finished the ride on my 1988 vintage steed.

Stats:

Elapsed time: 7:47
Riding time: 5:25
Temp: strava says 46 but it was colder. Part of the ride the garmin was in my pocket since I had nowhere to put it. 40-42 i'd say. Not bad but pretty darn lame with some rain on top
Distance: 81.4 miles
Elevation: 5,243
