visiting tucson, nice rides?

I will be staying near Sabino Canyon in Tucson in two weeks and am looking for advice on some rides. LBS have a few but... 30-50 miles w/ some hills would be great, but coming from WI and we still have snow so no mountain climbs yet.

As divekrb said Mt Lemmon is a good ride. Unfortunately the road is under construction and is closed to bikes beyond milepost 11. Leaving from the Sabino Canyon area would make that about a 40 mile ride.

Here is a website with a few of the more popular rides in the area. A couple of these start at Udall Park, which is close to Sabino Canyon.

One of the most fun of those on this list is the Gates Pass/McCain Loop (or some variation of it). But round trip from Sabino Canyon would make that one closer to 65 miles (unless, of course you drove over to the west side of town to start your ride).

Don't know about cycling, but I hate Tucson! Aarghh!

A very short ride, but absolutely delightful is the 10 mile loop in Saguaro National Park East. Close to Sabino, and there are numerous roads with bike lanes around the area. Go early in the am before the crowds, and go around 2-3 times. Beautiful desert foliage and scenery.

If you want fast stuff, check out the shootout on Sat mornings leaving from Euclid and University at (currently) 7am. Call Fairwheel bikes and ask what time it's leaving when you get in town. Start times change based on temp and light.

Good one less visitor, tell all your friends and family how much it sucks.

I visit greenvalley each year which is about 20 miles south on I 19. If you would like to truck you bike to GV a nice ride is from GV to Arravaca. A constant but low grade climb for 30 or so miles to Arravaca provides a fast ride home. Not highly traveled during the week. Another ride is from GV down almost to mexico on the frontage roads. Problem is you have to jump on I 19 for a couple short stretches. Another good ride is from GV to Medero canyon. Again, constant climb up, fast ride home.

I second the gates pass recommendation. Just rode that one as part of a recent brevet and I had no idea something like that even existed so close to Tucson (most of my Tucson cycling is limited to the El Tour route). I need to do more riding in the Tucson area.

Already have! I don't mean to be offensive, its just that the only parts of Tucson I've seen have been dull and old-folky...
