New decoration for an existing bike - sprucing up blah titanium
Been looking over my Everti Falcon Ti bike with brushed finish, no paint, and black and white decals. Great bike, but the look is so boring! I have always liked the color combo of black, white and yellow to bridge the gap between the other two. As the photos show, I already replaced the white bar tape with yellow a couple of months ago. That has encouraged me to go further. The picture here shows some substitute wheels on the bike while the regular ones are being redone.
Pictured below are my Kinlin XRD-200 rims which have just been powder coated for a VERY reasonable price at www.steidlepowdercoating.com. $50 for the pair each plus return shipping. Cheapest price I could find in Houston was 3X that. I will rebuild them on the bikehubstore hubs and DT Revolution spokes.
Next item is the saddle. I am working with Jason at www.recoveredsaddles.com to get my favorite but worn out Terry Falcon Y saddle recovered in yellow leather. He doesn't have any, but we are working together to find some at a reasonable price. I have some on the way now. Hopefully it will have the right properties for covering the saddle.
That leaves just the question of cables. Black or yellow? I think I need to wait and see how strong the effect is before making that decision.
I'll stick with the black carbon bottle cages and have no plans to powder coat any other parts like seat post or stem.
More to come. Comments? I think I really like this approach to decorating a stodgy frame. Similar would be bright matching saddle, tape, rims, etc. on a blackout carbon or aluminum frame.

Thanks. I already have a file set up for that category of responses. It is not unexpected and not unwelcome.

I prefer some red touches on mine (no longer built up, but I do like the bare Ti look... this one's an old Merlin, with a brushed finish). I think you'll be OK but for the love of pete don't put yellow tires on that thing. Maybe consider debadging it too, I think the black and Ti and yellow will go better without a white logo in the midst of all that yellow. IMHO.

Brushed Ti is one of the best looking frame finishes. Why you want to do anything to it? Also, you say "blah titanium" but then you want your bike to look like a bumblebee or a taxi. Way better...

IMO, that yellow looks terrible with a Ti road bike.

While the powder coating was reasonable, BillyD's looks pretty good with just a yellow stripe in the tire.

I think it needs at least a yellow saddle to balance out the yellow bartape. Yellow rims are a matter of taste, could go with tires that have a yellow stripe like Schwalbe Ultremo instead...

OP, maybe photochop a yellow saddle in to see what it will look like.

I certainly agree, but I have given up on colored tires. With three different colored bikes, they make just too many spares to have to keep around. In GP 4000/4000S black is much more readily available and often better priced. I prefer to have to just keep one or two black spares on hand that can be used on any of the bikes and not have to worry about finding a good deal on yellow or red, etc. on the spur of the moment.

I have a bare titanium Serotta Legend with red decals. Red Fizik bar tape, Prologo Scratch Pro saddle, Elise Cuissi gel bottle cages, cables, Bontrager black with white and red accents stem and seat post, and Shimano Dura Ace 7850sl wheels with black, white and red accents.
Would like red accented water bottles also but was buying ice bottles and it did not work out.

See, that's what I'm talking about. If I wanted to look like a hobo, there are easier ways to accomplish that. I could just stop shaving.

I think Ti speaks for itself. If anything try some of that black & white speckled bar tape. I think it would tie in well with the white accents you already have.
Nice looking bike.
*edit* maybe once you get it all built it will come together....

What does any of this even mean...like in the real world? "A blank Ti frame doesn't speak for itself"? Does anyone ever look at a bike, good looking or not, and say "wow, that bike speaks for itself"? Why did you even get a brushed Ti bike, only to want to spend money and effort on covering it up with hideous yellow rims and bar tape? Just get a blacked out Specialized, and be totally, utterly unique . Cuz that looks is even better, LOL!

I did something similar with my Litespeed, except in blue. Just have blue tape, blue ano Velocity A23s, and blue skewers. Just enough colour to offset the black.
