i still haven't moved any dishes or cookware besides the one small saucepan, tea kettle, mug, plate, bowl, and set of silverware i originally took with me. i do really need to grab some glasses next time as fancy belgian ale just isn't the same out of a coffee mug. i didn't even bring a good knife.
i am determined however, to see how long i can live without a microwave or television. i don't have a coffee maker, and have been enjoying just using a french press, and heating milk to froth on the stove. (i have a $3 milk frothing wand thingy.) |

Translating between clients and creatives and the back end guys who all speak completely different languages. You will make mistakes and feel like a real idiot. Learn, and take advice, and if there are sarcastic comments, let them slide over. It might not be a fortune, or even near your previous earnings. Cycling is pretty big in Melbourne, with lots of bike paths and trails. Good public transport, and the Victorian countryside is excellent for all sorts of riding. You can even do centuries without hills!! We didn't live in Melbourne, rather about 100km to the north (Alexandra). Real estate is a bit expensive, both to buy and to rent. But there is a very active arts scene, a lot of pubs, and there are quite a few Asians who attend university or have immigrated permanently to the city (just so you can feel a bit at home). There are, of course, the requisite expat Poms, too, so you can feel even more at home. Climate is temperate and good. Summer days can exceed 40 deg C for 10 days over summer. The winters can be dreary, dull and damp, but entirely survivable. Why do you ask? |
a pom mate of mine told me about an opportunity that might suit me that he saw. he recommends i try for it. i've always heard people love living there but it is a bit too expensive. how much would one have to get paid to live there and be able to save?
like everyone like san francisco but who can afford to live there? |
