Casually Deliberate
Last Wednesday, the 5th, I had a first and second interview with Walmart. (I know what you may be thinking. I've thought a lot of that myself. Still, they're not that different from Target and they're bringing about 400 jobs to the Vancouver metro area.) At the beginning of the first interview, the young man tried to give me a hard time about my interview being for 3pm and it then being 3:27. I stated that what I had been told on the phone and what I had written down was 3:15 and I'd been sitting and waiting for at least ten minutes for someone to call me over and begin interviewing me. He decided to let it go and hustled through the questions he had to ask me. (I had driven out the state highway behind some real idiots and in pissing down rain. I was expecting failure and irritated as f*** so I was not prepared to get jammed up about something I didn't do.)
The second interviewer seemed a bit readier for me. I was looking over a map while I was waiting and we started talking about riding and he told me he'd had a not very successful one the weekend before. He'd gone out with his young son and since neither had been on a bike in a while it was not as much fun as they'd hoped. He said "We called you in to interview for an overnight stocking position but looking over your application and experience, it looks like we might benefit more from having you in the bike area." I said "Well, to be honest, you would really, since Walmart doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to bike assembly." He said "I've heard that assessment and I agree with it completely." We talked a little more, he asked me the four questions he had to ask, and then he surprised me by saying "Have you ever considered going into management. "Um, no."
So, he told me to go home and take the management assessment and start thinking about what departments I might like to supervise. I took the test and they told me the next day that I scored high enough to be "competitive".
Monday, I had my third interview and they offered me the position of Merchandise Supervisor in Sporting Goods starting at $11.45 an hour. (I will not be surprised if I get moved to the arts, crafts, and school supplies department since that position is a lot harder to fill out here in the Northwest and they saw me knitting on the sock while I was waiting Monday and we discussed which would be a better fit.) This afternoon, they called and said I passed the drug and background test and orientation is scheduled for next Tuesday. I had kind of thought this Walmart gig was going to be another entry level dead-end job where I could keep my head down till someone got sick of me. Now it looks like I may be there a while and might even be able to support Lester and his hot new ride in the style to which they'd wish to be accustomed. (Yeah. I'm jealous.)

On the one hand, I know how painful it is to look for work and not find any.
Congrats on the new job and the management fast tracking.
On the other hand, do not let them tattoo you with the mark of the beast.
But if they have an employee stock plan, get into it. You can do this, even
in the face of adversity. I was able to perform superhuman feats in the fire
department training and probation period just because what I had to go back
to was so distasteful to me. Death seemed preferable.

Even though 3alarmer has the occasional creepy comment, you'll notice there's more women comfortable enough to disclose they're women in this thread than in the general population. That says something.
It's unclear what the something is.

Some guys could learn from this, but I don't know know how many. It's not like I'm here to teach.

And, no, I'm not settling in and planning on retiring out of Walmart. I kind of scared myself the other day because I started having planning for the future type thoughts. Like "If I lasted a year in management at Walmart then maybe I could apply at..." A place that doesn't have a dress code where I'm swapping khakis and a red shirt for khakis and any color of blue along the spectrum from royal to navy? A place where I can supervise people who are excited to come to work most days?
I am *very* excited about the idea of being able to pay my half of the rent- I did in January and February but in March I could only pay half the utilities so far- and being able to take LoP out for dinner or lunch or whatever. I take my financial responsibilities seriously and, because, I'm a modern girl, I guess, I do pay attention to whether or not I feel like I'm kicking in my share of cash for meals out, etc.
Too bad Walmart doesn't have better quality bike parts for me to use my employee discount on...

I'm getting tired of running the 65s in the wind. I was thinking I'd give the Eurus a go, but I'm too lazy to switch pads.
I raced an old green car stopped at the light in front of Platt Middle School today. He was at a disadvantage because I got to roll up on him. When he realized it was on, it was on. I headed home after that because that was as good as it was gonna get.

Still kicking.
What I was referring to when I got something was a different car.

So I was thinking about that H+ thread. For those of you that ride the rollers, if you use different wheels, you feel the difference. The 45mm tubulars at 1170g spin up the fastest. It's clear. Night and day. The 65s are the slowest and if you're not careful, you're off at slow speeds.
There doesn't seem much to argue, yet that dude won't let it go.

Tubulars also carry more air pressure, which enhances that feeling. You're right, sbxx, the rollers don't lie. I'm still going to replace the Fusions with the Pacenti's.

Rare. I was actually thinking of pulling the decals on both sets of Reynolds, and mixing and matching a bit. I like the top fuel look of big n little on the rear and front. They're still awesome rims, and sing almost as nicely as the Rails. Just a different pitch.

Still kicking.
Preowned 2012 Ford Focus Titanium hatchback, has very low mileage and felt right to me. Come monday I will hopefully be able to drive without fear of breaking down like what's been happening with the wonderful gm product I currently own has been doing to me for what seems to be every week this year.
