Addiction XXXIII

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You weren't waiting on a high end frame out of Crimea were you? Those Sevastapudlians know how to weld some mean titanium, after building the Soviet Death Star.

The IceTrekkers look just like the Kahtoolas, but milder spikes. They were a little spendy, but they look like they'll last a lot longer than Yaktrax, and I do enough stuff on the ice in winter where it wont be a waste. We'll see how they work out this weekend. The website of the thing we're going to specifically recommends bringing an ice hiking stick or cleats of some kind. Basically we'll be hiking 1.1 miles across Lake Superior.

Oh, and if the rubber degrades too much, I have the materials to make old school leather straps for them instead.

I am at this juncture within 60 days of my 8 day 1000 mile bike ride attempt. May 3rd planned departure. May 7th @BillyD buys me dinner and beer in New Paltz. If I get a day off schedule, May 10th in Watkins Glen for fly by night (and a ride home from Mr. rjones28 ).

So if you get behind schedule, you have to run a duathlon as punishment?

You'll have plenty of time to nap in between my visits to the transition area.

Rode the SS to work in the dumping snow and sleet. Got soaked. It was wonderful.

Almost time to do it again.

There is a particular satisfaction in commuting in crap weather. Off today, otherwise I would have been there with you.

Well done.

How's the Castelli kit? I think their stuff is really good. When the firm was considering starting a team, it was Hincapie or Castelli.
