Thank you, ts. I knew the 200 was today, and couldn't find it on TV. I think I just changed my plans, and it looks like a nice little roller ride to the 200.

The good news is we are celebrating my father's 80th birthday tomorrow. They rented out a local restaurant and invited a bunch of people to come.
The not-so-good news is my mom has asked me to make a speech/toast, and I am not too crazy about that.
I told mrs datlas that I would just raise my cup and enthusiastically say "happy birthday, dad!" but she said that's inadequate.
Suggestions??

way of shoulders, and is usually pretty well trafficked (both cars and bikes). It is a very green, coastal redwood ecosystem.
Mt Diablo is not nuts, just a really steep climb right at the end, but it is probably more fun on a road bike, IMO,and there are better views.

Last Wednesday, the 5th, I had a first and second interview with Walmart. (I know what you may be thinking. I've thought a lot of that myself. Still, they're not that different from Target and they're bringing about 400 jobs to the Vancouver metro area.) At the beginning of the first interview, the young man tried to give me a hard time about my interview being for 3pm and it then being 3:27. I stated that what I had been told on the phone and what I had written down was 3:15 and I'd been sitting and waiting for at least ten minutes for someone to call me over and begin interviewing me. He decided to let it go and hustled through the questions he had to ask me. (I had driven out the state highway behind some real idiots and in pissing down rain. I was expecting failure and irritated as f*** so I was not prepared to get jammed up about something I didn't do.)
The second interviewer seemed a bit readier for me. I was looking over a map while I was waiting and we started talking about riding and he told me he'd had a not very successful one the weekend before. He'd gone out with his young son and since neither had been on a bike in a while it was not as much fun as they'd hoped. He said "We called you in to interview for an overnight stocking position but looking over your application and experience, it looks like we might benefit more from having you in the bike area." I said "Well, to be honest, you would really, since Walmart doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to bike assembly." He said "I've heard that assessment and I agree with it completely." We talked a little more, he asked me the four questions he had to ask, and then he surprised me by saying "Have you ever considered going into management. "Um, no."
So, he told me to go home and take the management assessment and start thinking about what departments I might like to supervise. I took the test and they told me the next day that I scored high enough to be "competitive".
Monday, I had my third interview and they offered me the position of Merchandise Supervisor in Sporting Goods starting at $11.45 an hour. (I will not be surprised if I get moved to the arts, crafts, and school supplies department since that position is a lot harder to fill out here in the Northwest and they saw me knitting on the sock while I was waiting Monday and we discussed which would be a better fit.) This afternoon, they called and said I passed the drug and background test and orientation is scheduled for next Tuesday. I had kind of thought this Walmart gig was going to be another entry level dead-end job where I could keep my head down till someone got sick of me. Now it looks like I may be there a while and might even be able to support Lester and his hot new ride in the style to which they'd wish to be accustomed. (Yeah. I'm jealous.)

Survived my club ride. It was supposed to be an A- ride but a bunch of A riders showed up and pushed the pace. Shortly before the halfway rest stop I was working too hard and got nauseated, so I got shot out the back. I caught up with the group at the rest stop but 5 miles later the A guys put the hurt on again. I joined a grupetto with 3 other riders and we finished the 50 mile ride at a civilized pace.

Since we're posting pics of dogs, here's one of my girl dog in a blue dress. She was paralyzed in the hind legs when we adopted her. As you can see she is fine now.

Peanut was smart to resign with the Bears. $3.5 million isn't bad when you made $8 million last year. I remember when the Bears drafted him from Louisiana-Lafayette in 2003. Now, he's one of the best defensive players in Bears history. Take the $3.5, play another year, get hurt for three or four games, and hang it up. 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year, all kinds of lucrative options open up in the Chicago market.
This is the information someone should have been giving Brian Urlacher. He'd have a chain of restaurants and car dealerships in Chicagoland by now. Instead, he's taking silly shots at the team, further alienating the franchise. Like Ditka did initially.

I did the 10A Saturday ride with the Goon bunch. Good fun and not the hairy scary sketchfest I had come to believe it was.

i ended up missing it due to a brunch thingy at a friends house. sad to hear that jds40 crashed, but still stoked that a triumph won. i'll be curious to see how long it takes to post the races for re-watching. i've been impressed with the streaming site, for being something put together quickly, and offered for free... it's really pretty great.

Ok, so processing all of the sage advice, I spent some time with Mapmyride and now have a new plan, which I am liking.
Gone is the circle the state plan, and this is more of a six and change centuries ride that has me sleeping in 4 different states, and it lines up so I can spend one night in New Paltz with my boy, and one night with my parents. Six full century days, a 65 mile ride home from my folks on the 7th day. Only one day with more than 8k ft of climbing, which the old plan had two days at 9k. Oh, and there is a ferry ride to cross from NY to Vermont.
I am liking this. And I wouldn't have thought of it with out all of you.
You folks are the best.
Gone is the circle the state plan, and this is more of a six and change centuries ride that has me sleeping in 4 different states, and it lines up so I can spend one night in New Paltz with my boy, and one night with my parents. Six full century days, a 65 mile ride home from my folks on the 7th day. Only one day with more than 8k ft of climbing, which the old plan had two days at 9k. Oh, and there is a ferry ride to cross from NY to Vermont.
