Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Damn. That kid is 15 and tearing it up.

Nice result for kindablue.

Not to interrupt bike related comments, but I wanted to say thanks again for all the well wishes regarding my dog. I've had a couple dark days, but really feel the joy of being blessed by 14 years of her. Today, I smiled as much as sobbed. Thank you, random internet strangers/friends.

Bah Humbug, did you go too heavy right off the bat? It's said to make sure your form is correct before going big.
Shamefully, it was just air, but a bunch of them. Form wasn't bad, but my chiro says I went to too many reps, and too deep, too fast, which put too much strain on the MCL since it didn't have time to strengthen and lengthen.

I just want to run, dammit.

It's not easy. Wrote this about the changing of the doggie guard. Still miss my Sam pretty bad sometimes and it has been 6 months.

Bike racing in Colorado. Not only do you have to worry about the 50 year old ex pro sandbagger, the 16 year old son of a bike obsessed bike weenie might lap you.

It would be a glorious day if my kid lapped the 3/4 field and won Stazio at 16. Glorious.

I'd be good with him running the point at Fairview as well. Maybe even better. You hate to see your kid go down hard riding a bike. And guaranteed, he would go down hard eventually. I've seen my share of bad falls already, but busted bones would really suck.

RollCNY, 14 years is a great run. There are a load of good memories to be had in that time. I know the memories won't replace her, but at least she lives on there.

So. pcad. How is Commander Cody? Did you ever get his ear situation straightened out, or is he still defective?

Indeed, sbxx. You look around while waiting for the whistle, and just shake your head. I can't say I was the oldest at the line, but there is a certain injustice in all that. Perceived, as I made the choice to get my ass kicked by the baby faced 3's, and not the 50 year old Cat 1's.

I hafta agree, back in the wut 80s when i was running a lot and most unfortunately lived in Detroit, I used to run in the winter on the indoor track at the Vic Tanny's...like 18 laps to the mile or something...one guy there would go 3+ hours at a time on that dinky track, getting in shape to qualify for Boston, so you know he was booking along. He'd slow down when I showed up for like an hour or so...me, with sweat dripping, passing the lollygaggers just like the friggin MUP...yes, running IS stupid, or at least running practitioners...

Yep 14 years is close to 100 years old for a dog, that's a good run.

Cody's ears remain defective. We'd exchange him for a new puppy, but we lost the receipt.

Masters racing should start @ 40+, considering the significant number of 35+ guys in the pro peloton. Good grief, a 41 year old just won the friggin Vuelta. So what if he was doping, there are plenty of guys juicing in the 35+.

A former junior from our team is going to college out there and did that race. He noted on his Strava that it was hard.

The pepper flakes are delicious. And hot as hell. Overdo it and you could really suffer. Nice work, Mrs. LAJ.

There were four bottles. I only shared one. I win. Thanks again.

I did a 3 race in Richmond this past weekend and for whatever reason, they were asking each person their racing age as they passed out the numbers. I was pretty much double of each of the 4 guys in line ahead of me. That's annoying....and agree the 35+ fields are silly fast, around here they pretty much look like the 1,2,3 field minus a few gifted punks.

I suppose it could be worse.

...so I'm trying to get back into some mileage after a three week stretch of bronchitis from hell,
and today, at about mile 20, I got dropped by a kid on a lemon yellow Schwinn Varsity who was
late for class at Sac State. I would say this was the low point of my day, but it's only 6:40 pm
here, so there is still plenty of time.

Don't be silly, he's a kid. Probably a third your age. Maybe a fourth. He could drop you on a tricycle.

Sent the guy I'd been talking to at Cervelo a photo of the R3SL. He said he was jealous. Photo apparently got distributed around "the office."

I'm glad you like them. There is such a variety in there, that if you catch a spare flake, it may have any number of flavors. Scotch Bonnet may very well be in there, she says. She has them this year, so she says it's a good chance. She also says good job on the identification. The flakes are all her stuff.

Let us know when you start getting low on the flakes.
