First training ride of the season with the local club
First training ride of the season felt great. I need new off season riding buddies.... I got cocky because I'm always dropping them. Today I got dropped on lap 4 though. Time to grind because these dudes are nuts.
This is the local tuesday/thursday meet up here in socal. I'm lucky this is about 6 miles from my house. Wicked fast, averaging 30mph up front today. (not my video)

Nice, quick little video. But, knowing it's not Mike's video, FWIW and for the sake of correctness, lest anyone gets the wrong idea, it's the Rose Bowl Ride, not club.

I'll be coming out, ASAP. Broken toe has made riding extremely difficult & uncomfortable. Maybe in a couple weeks.

I was about to say... that's one heck of a club ride... mine are usually at 5am and there are 20 riders by the end...

It's funny how fast the peleton stretches out. I was hangin for a while, but once I hit the back I was struggling around 25.
my bad
I don't use apps, but this is the best I could find. https://www.strava.com/segments/rose-bowl-633705
Now that you say it, that is my favorite part. These rides start at 5-5:30PM. I was talking to a guy who comes from san diego every wednesday for these rides. Pretty nuts.

I did the Peleton ride once. Was on a rented bike, with tennis shoes which made it lots of fun.
My bet is the average speed for the ride was more like 25-26mph, but there were extended times at 28-30mph, and some in the low 30's.
It's a huge group and it flies. Like the Tuesday Night Worlds most places, but a lot of fast people, and some particularly fast people make it faster than some places with fewer fast riders.

Yep. I usually do the ride once a week throughout the year. Last year, I tried twice a week, but my body couldn't handle it and was gradually slowing down. I stopped going 2x/week and went to once, cut back in other areas and was able to rebound.
Can't imagine doing w/tennis shoes
We seem to be getting more traffic, too. It's kind of a hot spot for exercise and other. Car traffic slows us down/gets in the way. We've had a bunch of the Big Names stop coming out, probably due to this and the fact that we attract new-to-fast-paced-group riders who don't have the best handling abilities and sometimes treat it as a race, doing not-so-smart moves (crossing yellow line, moving up inside where pedestrians are walking/jogging, squeezing into where there's not enough room, overlapping wheels, etc...). Not so many soccer balls in the middle of the pack anymore. Hmm. Oh well. C'est la vie.

5:30pm would be perfect for me not being a morning person. It seems like all of the group rides on the west side start at 8am or earlier.

man those solid divider poles would really frack you up if people got stupid in a turn and forced you into one.

So, I caught the Rose bowl ride yesterday on my commute home. Did 4 laps... one at 27.9mph. It was a blast.
Got some funny looks though with hi viz messenger bag and mirror.

It's a 3 mile loop around the stadium with a pedestrian track on the inside. The only auto traffic is from other Rose bowl users.
Oddly, there was a cop car stopped at one of the intersections, but he was as much in the way as anything.

Yeah, I kind of assumed as such. There's a pretty cool kid's museum there too.
