So I have a P1 madone I want to sell but have no idea what to list it for,

Its a 56 H2 2013 6 series with 2010 force and bontrager Aura carbon TLR wheels.

Im thinking $3300? Thoughts?

Where is the best place to meet for a sale off CL, I have family who don't want strangers coming to the house. I have sold small things off CL and meet them at a place with security cameras like a Casino but for a bicycle? its too big to walk into the lobby and meet there? Should I just do ebay and take the fees?

Selling a bike worth thousands would give me a headache, most people need a credit card to pay for it.

If you using CL make sure you meet up during the day and at a public place, I usually meet people at a Target or mall as there are secuirty cameras and security guards, Dont ever tell peope to meet you at your house or agree to meet anyone at their house as you never know what you could run in to.

Makes me wonder how people could meet on match.com or eharmony.com and sites like that with horror stories you read. The TV ads are so cute and cuddly for those sites.

lol!! been there done that and Match is freaking insane man , majority of woman just want free dinner and thats it, I deleted all those crazy accounts. lol!! back on subject, just remember that if you post on CL you will get lowball offers so price accordingly, my son has been flipping BMX bikes on CL and has done really well, last saturday he made a really nice profit on 1 flip.

Sounds like a good idea. Would square be worth it for a one time transaction like this (it's how I paid for my new furnace, so I'm a bit familiar with the concept)?

The fact that it's a Project One bike means very little to the buyer. The whole point of Project One is that I (as the buyer) get to customize the bike and I'm not getting to do that with a used bike.

The blue book puts the bike around ~ $2700.

There's a guy (local to me) selling a 2013 7 Series Madone with Dura Ace 9000 for $3400. I've seen a half dozen 6 Series fetch sub $2500 on eBay since the first of the year.

You might have better luck parting the wheels from the bike if you have some trainers/commuters.

Nothing says "stolen" like meeting at a coffeeshop.

If you are legit, sell from home. Treat it like buying a car, trade legit info. Get a receipt, protect yourself from being accused of theft.

If it is a stolen bike, as is often the case of "I got this bike for free/msrp, how much is it worth"....

Take itback to the person that bought it and ask. If you have to ask then it isn't worth much.

How do you figure? A popular bike shop in Folsom has a coffee shop and every time I'm there (which is weekly) there's almost always a parking lot deal occurring. Over the weekend a guy bought a $4500 S-Works bike and started putting 100s in the guy's hand right in front of me.

I've probably sold $10,000+ worth of items (via Craigslist) from computers, to bikes to home appliances and all of them have been at the local coffee shop.

Ironically, seeing we're throwing out anecdotal experiences, my best bud sold a bike from his home in Davis. Three days later his house was robbed and all of his bikes were stolen (about $9500 worth of equipment). They never caught the suspects but you can't help but wonder if the Craigslist guy was involved. The information the buyer provided was all fake, thankfully the cash was real.

Speaking of that, how does one verify legit info?

Obviously you don't watch or read the news ! For example last year a father and son went to someone's house to purchase a phone for son, dad went and knocked on door people came out and started harassing him dad tried to leave and got shot dead .the horror stories go on and on, rule for me if I buy or sell on CL is meet at public place with lots of people around if you feel item is stolen ask the seller if you can take a pic of him with item or write a quick bill of sale , that will cya . But you give the OP good advice. There just aren't very many people who are going to spend over $2k on a used bike (regardless of the MSRP). And custom means very little to the second or third owner. Parting out a bike typically yields the highest resale.

I sold my Giant Defy on ebay yesterday and took the fees of course vs no fees on CL. Its just not worth saving 10% of the price of the bike for the risk you take with someone coming over to the house.

OP sell your bike in the casino if you do CL, just tell the person nothing personal its for my safety and yours. Talk about a place with cameras in every angle.

Actually, all three. I liquidated a 2300 sq ft home in the course of a month via multiple yard sales, CL and eBay. That included a fridge, in a parking lot of a Sears. Let me tell you, we got some stares.

I agree with you, purchasing a bike cannot be seen as an investment in anyway. Bikes are routinely selling for 40-50% off original MSRP on CL, eBay, etc. Could you get more? Maybe. You need have a range and work your way down it. Start it at $3300 and then knock off $50 a week (or so) until you hit your basement price. That's what I've traditional done and it's worked out pretty. I've never paid the asking price for an item from CL because the item is never as originally described. So you as the seller need some wiggle room because the buyer is going to want to take a lot.
