Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Joule GPS falls off mount! Anyone else?

My Joule GPS cyling computer came loose of the mount and fell off in a race today! I couldn't find it. Now I'm out $200 >

I was about to suck it up and order a new one, before wondering what if the new one falls off as well?

My Garmin 510 came with a tether. I use it so I won't lose/destroy it if it comes of the mount while riding.

I'm waiting for a new Joule GPS as one of the tabs broke. It's being held in place by a rubber band. I switch the unit between two bikes.

I had a similiar issue with my Joule GPS. I was participating in a 60-mile ride last summer with about 20 miles of hard pack dirt sections. I hit a bad bump and my Joule popped out of the mounting bracket. Fortunately I found the unit and it was still working. It turns out one of the two plastic tabs that hold the unit in the quarter-turn mount had broken completely off (the other was still intact). There doesn't appear to be any good way to fix this short of buying a new Joule, since the tabs are an integrated part of the rear cover of the computer. Since I still have one usable tab, my low-tech solutions was been to use lots of electrical tape! I'm hoping that CycleOps might fix this in future versions by having a removal set of tabs on the back and include a tether.

Go to DCRainmaker. Click through the CleverTraining, and with the DC Rainmaker discount you can get it for $149, or do the same for the Edge 500, and get that for $180.

I've ridden like 10K miles with my Joule GPS. Never had a problem. I've hit plenty of bumpy stuff, like RR tracks @ 25 mph.

Saris is recommending the Bar Fly for the Joule. It's included now.
