I've had 4 pair of the Sugoi RS Flex bibs. Really like 'em, but my oldest one in the rotation has had it.
Problem is that I paid roughly $100 a pair, as I picked them up on sale at times. Now they are way more expensive.

I used to like the Performance Ultra's but the reviews seems to be iffy in spots. Suggestions appreciated for a replacement up to $125, I guess

Let me preface this with saying that I don't have experience with Sugoi bibs; so apologies, this isn't a direct comparison. However, I just started buying Louis Garneau Equipe bibs (which uses the blue Garneau chamois), and they're great. Much more comfortable than any other bib I've tried.

think they are being replaced by the Carbon bib, same chamois but I don't like the material as much. If you can find the Equipes on sale, rock those.

Lately, I've been using Descent and Voler Jet. Best LD stuff I've used, seems durable.

Funny you guys say Voler; I used to love Voler bibs, but found the LGs and they're a lot more comfortable on long rides. Do the Jets use a different chamois than their older (red chamois) stuff?

I've been having good results with bibs from Bontrager (RXXXL), Hincapie (Edge and Power) and Pearl Izumi (P.R.O. In-r-Cool).

Keep an eye out on Chainlove.com for deals. I just got a pair of Castelli Bodypaint bibs for 50% off about a week ago.

Even if that link doesn't pan out, I'd consider sucking it up and paying what you need to get new Sugoi's.

Bib's are a matter of personal fit and preference. When you find one that works, there's value in staying with that.

I saw these, but haven't been able to figure out if there are two models; the RS and the RS Flex.

I also considered just paying the full price. The one thing I don't like about the Sugoi's is that the pad seems to flatten out relatively early in their lifespan, so figured I would shop around on other brands also.

I have a pair of RSE from last year which are really nice if a bit tight. I ordered a new pair from Performance a few weeks ago (more than $125 but were on sale for about $150) but they are a lot smaller than the previous year. I have large and ordered XL just to see if they would be a bit less tight and there were actually even tighter. If you go with Sugoi again, be sure to double check sizes. Maybe unique to the RSE.

I continually have good luck with PI PRO bibs. Good compression and comfy on long rides.

Weird. I have a set of Sugoi RSE and they're my least favorite set of bibs and I find them loose compared to my Giordanos and Castellis (looser than PI Pro as well). I used to think they were OK but I changed saddles last month and now I really don't like them. The legs are shorter than I like too.

Castelli body paint slot right after Castelli free race aero in my preferred bibs - the shoulder straps are sort of plasticized and not as comfortable as cloth ones IMO.

I agree with merlin though - if you found something you like, there's no reason not to stick with it.

Pearl Izumi - I have a couple pairs of older 3D Race bibs, that I'll probably get one more season out of, but wouldn't hesitate to buy whatever their current models offered are, because these were comfy, well made and PI stuff almost always fits me perfectly.

Voler - Caliber. Got a pair of these for Xmas. Love 'em, will be wearing these for my longest rides this season. Chrono SLM pad.

Could be a model year or size issue as they seem inconsistent. The RSE in L from last year is significantly more snug than the PI PRO in large. That's why I thought I'd try an XL this year but found it even smaller. I even contacted Sugoi and they said the new model was sized smaller. However, once on the bike they are very comfortable.

Hmm. I have some RSEs that are tighter than my Giordana bibs. Tight enough that I've only worn them once, and that was probably 2-3 years ago.

Just be aware - once you buy Assos, you never go back.

I'm aware of the lure of Assos and I'm trying to avoid that. It's bad enough with Castelli.

Assos models confuse the hell out of me. Also, didn't they change the models this year? What is comparable to the RSE or PI PRO or similar "big" (as in sold many places not size) brand. Is their mid price line similar to the sugoi or PI top of the line or what?

our team just went from Sugoi to Capo and I couldn't be happier.

We went from the Sugoi RS line to the Capo Super Corsa and it's a vast improvement. Their lower-end stuff (Modena) is pretty nice for what you pay and the SC-12 is a very nice bib (thin material, nice chamois) with thin leg grippers. If there's an LBS that distributes Capo I highly recommend them.

That being said, my most comfortable bibs are my Assos. If you want something nice try to find them on sale.

I have the new version of the Performance Ultra bib and love them. I now have multiple pairs. The chamois is the best I have ever had. Although I have never owned the super expensive bibs, I have owned Louis Garneau and Pear Izumi. As with any bibs fit is everything and performance work for me. I believe the reviews on the new bibs has been positive. I would say they are great value for the money.

Stop it! No more assos tempting.

I must have the wrong size Sugois or they're marked wrong or something. They are DECIDEDLY looser than my PI Pros or any italian brand in my house (the PI pros are similar in fit IMO). I wear XL though because I'm a 6'2" lardass. Maybe they just give up at XL.

My Sugoi's have always been Medium's. They are a bit tight when standing but fine on the bike, definitely not too loose or uncomfortable. Eh, maybe I'll take a run over to Performance this weekend and try on some Ultras, just for the heck of it. Otherwise, probably going to just pick up the Sugoi's on EBay, I guess.
