I wsn't riding the Dogma, and don't think it really competes against bikes that are 1/3 the price in any event. I have no experience with that bike beyond seeing it in the store and reading about it on the web. And I suspect many of its vocal critics have no more experience than that. A more balanced inquiry might be comparing bikes that cost Dogma-level money and asking in what respects they are better. For almost any really expensive bike, one might ask the rhetorical question "what are you really getting for your money?". You can almost always point to some other bike where the disparity in quality is far less than the disparity in price. That's because, I suspect, there is a diminishing return as one ascends the price scale: you are spending increasingly large sums of extra cash for increasingly small, incremental improvements in quality or performance.

The Pinarello Rokh I tested was at the pricey end of the scale compared with the other bikes I'm looking at. But it certainy wasn't double or triple the cost. And I didn't claim it was better than all the other bikes - the Domane was a bit smoother - and of course, that's just one element.

All I'm saying is it was a really nice ride. And the looks appeal to me, if not to everyone. I can understand why someone might choose this bike on the basis of sound consideration of all factors and good test-ride familiarity with numerous competitors. You certainly don't need to be a pretentious poser or a mindless "Kool aid drinker" to choose a Pinarello.
