Got a 2005 Allez Today!
I finally got a real road bike... I got the base model Specialized Allez with the Sora components (but Tiagra rear derailleur).
Decided to go with the cheapest Allez model after I was scared out of getting an "ultralight" CAAD7 or Scott bike, and my Langster was really dependable so the Allez made sense. It's gonna be my "city/commuter" bike so I decided not to spend over $1,000 either.
The Sora shifting is surprisingly smooth and I dig the thumb shifter on the brake hoods. It also has a carbon fork and seat post and the bike actually feels smoother than my Poprad (which has an aluminum fork).
I'm digging my new Allez a lot... rode for about 40 miles after I picked it up today.
I did get a pinch flat because I had the bike shop put in Armadillos, and whoever did it wasn't good at what he was doing. It was annoying to say the least.

i bought my first road bike this winter....an 04 Allez Triple (give me a break, I live in the mtns). I love it. Couldn't be happier. I think it is a smooth bike.
I plan on using this as a touring bike as well. I paid 451 with shipping, couldn't go wrong!
Glad you are happy with your purchase!

I have my 2002 (around that year) Allez, and it's an awsome bike. If Specialized standards didn't go down since I bought mine, 2005 should be a good bike too. Put around 700-800 miles on mine since winter break.
