Hi all,

Considering this as my first road bike. Seems like a good deal, as long as it fits me.

Before I drive two hours to look, I wanted your opinions. The seller thinks it is a 2006, but cant remember. What sub model is it?

'06 at the newest, could be '04 or '05. Triple octalink crank, 9-speed mix of 105 and a little Ultegra. I don't think it's worth any more than the asking price...probably a bit less. Really needs to be just what you want and fit like a glove. No 55's, so I'd guess that's a 54cm.

Have you popped into Performance up in Tacoma? Some shops in town?

What kind of offer should I throw at him? If it fits, I'd love it.

~$450 if in great shape. I guess closer to 5 if it fits perfectly and you really like it. Probably a bit of a seller's market right in the heart of the city/U-district. I don't think I'd pay over 4 personally, but you could do a lot worse.

When I was shopping before, everything in the shops in my price range seemed to have low end components, I don't really want anything under 105. My max budget is about 600.

Just saw your other edit, seems a bit too high for me @ 550. 500 if perfect seems okay.

Re: Performance - I just think you could do better spending ~$700 there on a new bike than $550-600 on that older, alloy Roubaix. Don't turn your nose up at 4500 or 4600 Tiagra. Even the latest 3500 Sora is pretty decent. Sure, 105 and Ultegra are nicer. But the stuff from 8 years ago doesn't trump newer groups that are a notch or two down. For example, I think you'd be overpaying for old 105 with that Roubaix.

Driving 4 hours to look at used Specialized that is overpriced... I don't know man, doesn't sound like a great deal.

Which one do you think would be my best bet? I like the GT, but I know nothing about them.

Based on pic and sizes available, I would guess it is a 54. $1500 was MSRP. Offer $500, but $600 is probably fair for a 105 equipped bike.

IDK. The Felt is cheapest and closest to you. That counts for something. I think it looks kinda fun to start out on, but would be limited in some ways.

The Scattante packs the most value, but I'd hate battling traffic to check it out and you don't sound into it. GT is right behind (nicer wheels, similar frame), Rival would be nice if you aren't wed to Shimano. Portland is a long haul though.

No, it's not that new. It has 9 speed parts not 10 speed. And an Octalink crankset rather than the outboard bearings.

I am not wed to Shimano. How would the felt be limited? This is just a stepping stone for a temporary amount of time, this would eventually become my trainer.

That's older 8-speed Ultegra on the Felt, current 'state of the art' is 11 speed. The Scatt and GT have 10. It's also a threaded 1" headset/fork/stem set-up. Finding/trying different stem lengths would be more challenging. But I'd be quite tempted to check that bike out if I were in your shoes. That's not a lot of miles and a quick tune-up could dial it back in.

According to Bikepedia?? The differences between the ad and the '07 are clear as day (frame markings and parts) - it's not that new. The bike is a dead ringer of the '05 besides the color. Bikepedia doesn't have a page for '06, so maybe that's it. There would be a decent jump in value if it were 5600/6600 stuff, but it's not. That's Octalink and 5500/6500:

Just by way of comparison...I picked up my all carbon Tarmac, an '08 Ultegra/105 mix for just under 800 just about zero miles on it. Owner bought it to do an MS150 and realized he didn't enjoy riding.
Deals like this are fairly common from what I've seen. He started at 1200 and no one responded.

I think the Scattante and the GT are both better buys honestly, the SCAT has current 105/Tiagra and the GT has Rival. See if you can get that GT for $500 and use the rest of your $600 budget getting it tuned, and getting a helmet.

Thinking 500 was my top. Also, already have a helmet. But, a proper fit and tune would be in order.

I just read the post again, seller says it was just tuned, so maybe you can just put your extra funds toward getting it setup for you. I say go for it, Rival is a good group.
