got a bg pro fit, best investment ever!
well i splurged and got a fit, took about 3 hours, some sweating and thousand different positions on the bike. the change was HUGE!!! after the session he showed two videos side by side of my pedaling and holy heck, no wonder i was having elbow, knee, and back pain. the two videos didn't even look like the same cyclist, minus my face. lol. the pedaling technique is completely different now. I was getting to the point where 10 mile rides were killing me. I went for 50 today, and dang, it felt great. knee pain gone. had to get new pedals, saddle, and bars, but well worth the money. i will now be able to cycle so much more, anyone on the fence, just do it!!!!

Counting down to the first post that will tell you they can fit themselves....waste of money....3....2..1...
BTW, I do fittings and have ridden fitted and custom bikes my whole life as have the people I have raced with. It's worth it.
Glad you see the benefits of a proper setup.

yeah, i been riding for 7 years, for some reason this new bike i got I just couldn't get comfy on, but I know there are internet heroes out there, im cool with that. I never wanted to pay that kind of money for that service, but now that I have, i'm sold. plus, if i need any adjustments, he told me just to come back, and free of charge adjustments. can't beat that. I mean really, when is the bike shop free, lol i'm always picking something up there. looks like i have found a good bike shop. there are a few here in tulsa that i haven't had very great things to say about.

To me it's not a splurge at all, really. When one thinks of all the injuries/diminished performance caused by poor fit, it's a value. Always wondered how with bikes and full kit costing typically upwards of $2K, that spending 10% of that on a proper fitting seems like such an expense to so many.

Thanks for making me even more impatiant for my upcoming bikefit. I planned one because of knee pains, and since I had to study the whole structure of a knee I know what can get damaged so I don't take any chances. Thursday I'll know if it helped.

Maybe it's time for yours truly to have a proper fitting. It's one of the reasons I don't do long rides, just too uncomfortable.
I got fitted before ordering my Merlin in 2004, maybe I need a more advanced one.

Won't do anything for the average cyclist. Nothing more than snake oil. HTFU. Your body will get used to the pain. Ride a 53/39...with all 11 cogs out back being 11.

I did a basic fit on my self. I have arthritis and my knees will tell me if I did something wrong. Tested my last fit on a 20 miler and then the next day took my bike out for a 50 and zero issues.
I have been wanting to get a basic fit, might just go out and get one to see how far off I was

my left knee was swaying way out, my stem was too long, i had to have a few shims in my shoe put in due to collapse of my arch while down pedaling, all of this was contributing to my horrible lateral knee pain. I have been on two rides now and two runs, no pain at all. And NO i'm not embarrassed to say I couldn't figure this out and not fit myself, that was a dick thing to say btw.

If ya need it, ya need it. If ya don't ya don't. Act accordingly. I've never had any pain while riding that wasn't due to a too narrow saddle. Figured it out for myself, and took corrective action. Same with bar and saddle positions, stem length, frame size over the years. If you can't fix it for yourself, get help from someone who can figure it out for you.

Well.
At my advanced years (48) and with a lot of very active miles on the body, along with the inevitable injuries and tweaks you pick up along the way, and of course just the simple fact that we are all different and unique... certainly, my body is quite unique, and I'm skeptical that a fitter could really do much for me that I can't figure out myself.
I mean... got one leg longer than the other. Got a torn-up hip from winter of '88 that 25 years of protecting has led to a lot of asymetry in my body... have hurt both knees in different ways.... there's the lower back/sciatic thing from 1981 lifting a ginormous semi truck tire... arthritic big toe joint... on and on.
So I don't doubt there's some perfect fit out there for me; however if I were to try for it, I'd be looking at an orthopedist and/or very skilled and experienced physical therapist to help sort it out, maybe in conjunction with a skilled fitter with all the latest gewgaws. But I don't think some bike fitter dude who went to a class to learn how to run some software is really gonna understand MY body better than I do.
In other words- given the cost of bringing all that expertise together... ain't gonna happen.
In less than a year I self-corrected the leg length issue, played with wedges till I hit the right setup that mitigates numbness without setting off my arthritic big toe, figured out the seat setback that keeps one knee issue under control, seat height that does so for a different one, and so on. Riding a lot and listening to the body can get you a long ways.
With that said, I'd be very curious where a truly pro fitter would put me. I'd be willing to bet money that the fit would set off one ore more of the things I've already figured out how to fix, however.

I figured out all my fit problems by riding my bike over and over and over with a lot of tweaks along the way.
No way I'm gonna let an LBS employee change my setup.
Maybe when I first started riding way back but not now.

I'm really wondering why pedals were needed.
