Is Ultegra Di2 6770 able to receive updates without physical modifications?
I'm interested in updating the firmware on my Di2 6770 equipped ride so I can get the newest shift patterns. Right now, the button-push to gear-change ratio is 1:1. I'd like the option to hold the button down for a sec and have the RD skip 3 cogs. I asked my LBS and they said the only way to achieve this is to change the junction box. Is this true?

Completely false. Here's a pretty good article on performing updates...I'm guessing your LBS doesn't have the USB interface box, doesn't want to pay for one, and would rather have you pay for a junction box that has the USB interface built in.

Sounds as if your shop is not that knowledgeable about Di2. I have a 6770 system and a few months ago had my shop do the multishift update and I also switched the shift buttons on the big ring. And, I also recently updated to 11 speed by replacing the rear derailleur, cassette, and updating the firmware. A shop that knows Di2 is worth finding or alternatively, but the SM-PCE1 that is about $170 and then you are set for all future upgrades. For now, my LBS has a knowledgeable tech person and I prefer they do the changes.

The nice thing is that if it seems backwards you can change it to suit your preference!

My Di2 is the same as my mechanical setup. One moves to little rings, one moves to big rings. When I push the button to drop me into the little ring in the front, I push the same button on the right to move the rear to smaller rings. This is the same for every bike I own that has gears.

yes .... the "big" paddles on the front ring and the "big" paddle on the cassette are the same for me and spouse who also has a Di2 6770. She wanted "big" "big" to make it "easier" easier" for both shifts and so it is. You can program the buttons to do what makes sense to you, although it may make no sense to anyone else, who cares .....
