Road Cycling

What's the fastest you've ridden?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

48 mph / 78 kph - It was pretty unnerving, especially since cars kept passing me going down the mountain.

So far, about 35mph, which is fast enough for me. I'd hate to have a tire blow or other crazy situation happen at any point faster than that.

50 downhill 25 uphill and 30 flat for <1 mile....(probably a lot of tailwind in that cause I'm not that fast)......if you count up hills as downhills into up hills.........35 uphill.......I work well with momentum

my previous PR was on that segment. I was going for 55 when a SUV passed me and I lost my nerve.

Easter ride - Wilton, NH
46.4 mph today on one of my favorite local descents, smooth fresh pavement, long and straight, with good visibility.

Now that's scary, I hate it when cars pass me on fast downhills.

Touched 45 MPH descending into Cayucos, on a bike that wasn't mine, on roads that I'd never ridden before. Decided to ease up in the interest of self-preservation.

Down hill, about 45.

On a flat sprint, about 32 for about 100 yards.

My best ever thought was at the infamous 2012 Tour De Palm Springs when there was about 50mph winds (people were literally being blown off the road). The first 15 miles went directly into the wind and were miserable. The next 25 miles turned with the wind and I swear I didn't drop below 35 for the entire 25 miles and hit 50 a couple of times. It was glorious! I hooked up with a couple of other guys hammering away and we raced for about 30 minutes. If you have done the TdPS you know that back stretch with nothing but wide open road, no traffic, and gentle rollers before you turn and go back into town. Then it turned into the wind again for about the next 40-50 miles...brutal.

Here's a good video (not mine)

Ya he has one of those rev limiters installed, go past 40.1 and his legs do that stutter thing like a pit lane speed limiter.
I've hacked mine to "whatever the conditions warrent"

You know, there are those things you can use called (let me think) .... "brakes" that allow one to control one's speed. I am not getting paid to ride and win a race, so I try to keep it at a speed that I feel comfortable at.

52 MPH down Beatty Dr in Folsom with some braking (I am 230 lbs) but the older I get the sooner my brain tells me to brake. Comfort level at 43 years old is about 45 MPH. I suspect that will drop 1 MPH per year as I age......

Apologies, I watched the Chinese F1 race today and thought of the limiters set at a specific speed, wasn't intended to be a snipe. Going at speed one is comfortable at is the key.
Thought I was funny, but was not...
I can only hold 50k on the flat with a good tailwind or with a draft, and even then it's not for long.

43.4 mph here, I am aiming for 50 when I find the right downhill. I've only been riding for a month and a half though so I haven't experienced a lot of fast downhills.

I hear ya! I have a short steep section of two-lane highway on my regular commute. The speed limit is 45mph and with a little tail wind I can get 50mph or better coming down, so I usually take the lane. It amazes me how even though I'm well exceeding the speed limit, people still have to pass me. Incredible! It's like they just can't mentally handle not driving faster than a guy on a bike.
