Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You can flick the logos out (with a bit of work) with the tip of a small screwdriver. It turned out to be less work to press out the entire Zertz, remove logo, press Zertz back in. I then filled the space where the logo was with the 3M reflective tape.
Thanks. Not easy to sort out with all the different Zertz desigs out there. Specialized redesigned the Zertz for each generation of Roubaix. My Roubaix is a SL3...which looks to be the same as yours...and the OP's is SL4 and quite different than what you show. Mine uses screws for example and if they are removed, don't see how the elastomer stays in place.

So glad I stumbled on this thread.

Would you mind listing the products you used? I saw adhesion promoter mentioned and am also curious about primer, paints, hardeners, etc. I am not a painter on the side so it is all rather foreign.

Looks killer though -- glad I joined the thread late so I didn't have to wait in suspense as long.

Stellar work Adrian, really looking forward to the build. I'm still planning a paint job for mine but simply can't decide on theme, color, or frankly anything. If you get a chance check out some of the paint jobs that Speedvagen does, the word "luscious" springs to mind. Yet the boldness of color and simplicity of yours really makes it a great looking bike.

Thanks for the kind words. I have seen Speedvagen's work very nice.

Adrian, what would something like this cost someone without your skill-set? I have wanted to paint my bike for a while now but I figured it would cost me as much to have it painted as a new bike would cost.

Depending on the type of paint, additives in the paint (i.e. pearl, flakes, etc.) number of color(s) will usually cost around $600-up. I had my Ridley custom painted last year by Jack Kane and paid right around $1100; custom pink-pearl paint, 2 additional secondary colors and insured shipping both ways.

Hard to say, this job is a little more work than a standard frame and fork. Depending on colors, logos, etc. starting at $500 and up from there.

Friend of mine had an old Klein Rascal repainted and it cost him north of 500 bucks.

Waiting for the final product!

Thanks
Thanks for the info guy's. I figured it would be a number like that for good quality work. I have not seen any custom work done on bikes in my area. Most of the guy's around here that choose to debadge just take the frame to a powder coater, then it's just another matte black bike rolling around.

Just to 100 degrees. Not sure how high you can go without the parts asploding.

It is times like this, we talk turns to custom bike paint, that I miss 55/Rad the most. Ah, epic story of Tete and the Never Ending Paintjob.

I would like to voice a complaint about this whole thread. It did NOT move in internet time. I just checked - 5 whole days from start to finish. Unsat!

The finished product looks awesome though, well done. The stem and seat post look awesome and there are just enough little black bits hanging around to make it visually interesting. Your large chainring looks like a sump of blackness though. Maybe some gray or orange chainring bolts would break it up a little without changing the overall look.

It looks great. Terrific job.

1 wouldn't go any higher with the carbon. That's about right.

I live in the tropics. This would be an issue for me, as well.

I'm talking C, not F.

Considering where non HTg resins flow I wouldn't go higher than that. There can be a problem of BB shell alignment on BB30 or PF30 frames because of this.

Been there, done that. Didn't get a t-shirt.

Bike looks awesome, I picture some deep black carbon rims to make the orange pop more. Just a great job on it, kudos.
