Group riding is dangerous. Tell me your stories.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Practice. It's just like climbing - the more you do, the better you get

My strategy for staying safe on a group ride is to ride a with a group that I could barely keep up with. I'm the one usually 3-4 bike lenghts behind the last guy so I'm always in the safe zone.

If you got closer, you could stay with them a lot easier. It's science, my good man.

If your 3-4 bike lengths behind then you really are not riding with the group your riding solo.

It's hilarious. I just read through six pages about the alleged dangers of group riding and not once did I read anyone who thought group riding is dangerous identify their own lack of riding skill as the culprit. If you aren't going to commit to learning how to ride a bike (a little more involved than just being able to balance on two wheels), any group ride is going to be forever dangerous.

And based on the responses, it appears there aren't. Which kind of disproves your theory.

As a previous poster said, folks who do not do many group rides tend to lack good bike handling skills. When they get into a group, the lack of skills is magnified.
