Hmm, although I do like the retro looks, on the bike. Dubious, functionality - not sure how I feel about unstrapping and unrolling and then restrapping every time I want to get at something.
I betcha it's not terribly light either. Great for lifestyle photoshoots, though.
Overpriced ridiculousness - CHECK!

Thanks, all! There seem to be a lot of good choices. I'm currently looking at the Scicon Elan 210 for its compact size. I also visited my LBS but wasn't attracted to any of the bags they had in stock. (They had Topeak, Bontrager, Timbuktu and Specialized bags.) I will stop by REI tomorrow to see their selection.

I don't think it can get more minimalistic than Speedsleev:

Simple Bontrager Pro in medium size. Fits one tube, levers, CO2 device plus spare, patch kit, compact tool. Does not look bad, comes off pretty quick. Maybe 3/4 the seat width so its out of the way, entire rear flips down for access. Plus it's hard to beat the warranty. I had the small one and it would have been fine with a patch kit+CO2 but not a tube+CO2.

I think someone else mention the Lezyne Microcaddy. I'll second it - simple and snug saddle attachment, looks better on the bike than many bags I have tried in the past. Comes in a regular or small version - the small is really tiny but you can fit some CO2, tube and tire levers in it. They make a quick release version too.

Funny you should mention that. I was in a discount store the other day and on a whim looked at shorts - not cycling shorts, just casual shorts. I found some slim-cut black cargo shorts and it dawned on me...CARGO SHORTS! I've never owned a pair.
Yeah, I know people poke fun at them, like Crocs shoes and so forth, and yeah, I know this is the ROAD forum and not Commuting, but they're pretty cool. I'm not particularly slim but the shorts are much slimmer-fitting than the baggy shorts guys wear to weekend cookouts and baseball games or whatever. I'll wear them on my MTB for commuting but figure they will be also be good on top of cycling shorts for longer road rides when I want to carry more than will fit in my small under-seat road bike bag - pictured below. I got it at a local Performance Bike store.

Mines a Blackburn, plenty small...yet big enough. There's a picture of it on my bike in my BF album. I usually cram a shiny brite thingee CO2 inflated & cartridge, a tube, 3 tire irons, a dinky multi tool, a few antacid tabs, etc, And use the tiny zippered compartment for house keys & whatever I think I'll need quickly (money?) without digging. The stretchy straps failed long ago & I use Velcro straps to tie on a light jacket if I don't want to stuff it in my jersey.
this.
this.

Information keeps coming in. No wonder I like the Bike Forums.
I've just ordered a Topeak Aero Wedge Micro. I have a Small on my Hybrid, and I wanted something smaller. I did buy a Timbuk2 small bag that's attached to the rails with velcro tapes, but I didn't like it too much. Returning it tomorrow.

I got an F11 Aero Wedge Micro today, but it turned out the F11 attachment didn't fit my Fi:zi:k saddle rails. I've just ordered a Fi:zi:k Pa:k (small). I should have read your reply more carefully - my saddle does have an integrated attacher slot!
