...one of the people I met on Bikeforums led me over to her knitting forum once. The struggles for supremacy in there are epic. |
In the mean time, I stole an aluminum cage from the mountain bike. :o

So 4,486 US Soldiers dead in Iraq was the right response? Somewhere around 3,000 Soldiers killed in Iraq. Nearly 200,000 civilians, not terrorists, civilians, killed between Iraq and Afghanistan? You don't think your view isn't as extreme as these terrorists you hate so much? The result of sending nearly 8,000 soldiers to their deaths amounted to nothing, since terrorism in that region has only increased and their support stronger. I'm saddened for both the Afghanis and Iraqis, casualties and for the soldiers. That's all I see, more deaths, more terrorism.
I just don't understand how suffering 200 deaths on 9/11 equates to sending 8,000 of our own to their deaths. More death for death? I'll never understand that concept. |

I sense you're wasting electrons. The Force is weak in this one. I'd rather argue with the psychotic North Korean shill who hangs out on General Cycling, except even the mods got fed up with him and banned him for awhile.

I wanted a new bike. One that would be totally different than my other bikes. The frameset couldn't cost more than $1,000. I got the Allez E5 Smartweld frameset for $805 during my LBSes spring sale and it came with the headset, bottom bracket and seat post. I've only heard good things from people I know that have it and I think the Smartweld joints are cool.
It does use the same fork. The Tarmac I rode at the LBS did seem unresponsive. It was on a stationary trainer. |
I've been trying to start a sister thread over at the Olg Goats Forum, but after the last several pages here I might need to reconsider. The veneer of civilization appears thin at times in these parts.

This is all that really matters.
I want to ride one of those, the Spec. Allez/Tarmac geometry is really close to my black bike (tallish 190mm head tube on a 58) and longish for a 58 top tube. It might make a dandy replacement for the Flite should I break another one in half... or decide to sell it when I move. |
Naw. Every so often, things go sideways. It's rare, and things get back on track shortly.

This is the last thing I'm going to say on the subject. When you join the military you fully understand that you follow the orders of the Commander in Chief, the President of the United States. You don't pick and choose where you go or who you fight. Your untimely death or that of those around you is a distinct and real possibility. I fully understood that. That wasn't crystal clear to you when you joined?

Herbert, word to the wise...the specialized plastic cages have been know to restrict responsiveness!
They do make at least some stuff that's better than rotted wood. |

Pretty much. If you want to serve in the military, stupid wars are part of the deal in America. It's like our national hobby. Whether an American dies on D-Day in a 'good' war or in Vietnam in a war that maybe we shouldn't have engaged in, their sacrifice is just as noble, the unimaginable debt we owe them and their families just the same.
