...one of the people I met on Bikeforums led me over to her knitting forum once. The struggles for supremacy in there are epic.

In the mean time, I stole an aluminum cage from the mountain bike. :o

Nice. Did they ever reach a consensus?

I might have to check that out sometime. Now that I think about it, I've also seen pretty massive flamewars over how to properly season a cast iron pan.

so if jonesy has finished his build of the new bike, where is the photo?

I think VCRs became obsolete first.

...when will the Addiction thread wind up in P + R ? You can actually talk about firearms in there, without calling them kittens.

as you know 3a, I am very politically agitated but even I do the decent thing of talking about it in P&R where you can do it without kid gloves. well...without any gloves.

this thread is about bicycles and imaginary pets.

coasting 05-14-14 10:23 PM

and diets
and quack medical treatments
and bridges
and trains

.....ok ok this thread is about anything and nothing.

You don't think your view isn't as extreme as these terrorists you hate so much? The result of sending nearly 8,000 soldiers to their deaths amounted to nothing, since terrorism in that region has only increased and their support stronger. I'm saddened for both the Afghanis and Iraqis, casualties and for the soldiers. That's all I see, more deaths, more terrorism.

I just don't understand how suffering 200 deaths on 9/11 equates to sending 8,000 of our own to their deaths. More death for death? I'll never understand that concept.

This is the last thing I'm going to say on the subject. When you join the military you fully understand that you follow the orders of the Commander in Chief, the President of the United States. You don't pick and choose where you go or who you fight. Your untimely death or that of those around you is a distinct and real possibility. I fully understood that. That wasn't crystal clear to you when you joined?

Toothless he is. But you did notice, too, eh?

I got the Allez E5 Smartweld frameset for $805 during my LBSes spring sale and it came with the headset, bottom bracket and seat post. I've only heard good things from people I know that have it and I think the Smartweld joints are cool.

It does use the same fork. The Tarmac I rode at the LBS did seem unresponsive. It was on a stationary trainer.

Stop being so damned honest!! (even if it's in small type).

I've been trying to start a sister thread over at the Olg Goats Forum, but after the last several pages here I might need to reconsider. The veneer of civilization appears thin at times in these parts.

I want to ride one of those, the Spec. Allez/Tarmac geometry is really close to my black bike (tallish 190mm head tube on a 58) and longish for a 58 top tube. It might make a dandy replacement for the Flite should I break another one in half... or decide to sell it when I move.

You might want to try to rent one first. You and I have similar geometry (IIRC) and have similar saddle to bar drop. I spent some extended test rides on a 58 Tarmac, and it did not fit the way I expected the numbers to present. Unfortunately, I can't remember the specifics, other than it ended up feeling surprisingly cramped.

Naw. Every so often, things go sideways. It's rare, and things get back on track shortly.

I'm gonna swap out my plastic Arundel ones for some plastic specialized ones.. You can have those for shipping if you would like.

Herbert, word to the wise...the specialized plastic cages have been know to restrict responsiveness!

The average Lo-T level in this thread should not be mistaken for No-T. We're just wise enough to know how to control the T.

Pretty much. If you want to serve in the military, stupid wars are part of the deal in America. It's like our national hobby. Whether an American dies on D-Day in a 'good' war or in Vietnam in a war that maybe we shouldn't have engaged in, their sacrifice is just as noble, the unimaginable debt we owe them and their families just the same.

I did half of a race that had a ridiculously rough dirt/gravel section. Specialized cages were one of the few plastic ones that did not chuck bottles. I recently switched to a specialized helmet too, most comfy helmet I've had and it's nice and light.

They do make at least some stuff that's better than rotted wood.

+1, the tip of the spear needs to be sharp.
