Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had heart surgery when I was 25. Prior to the surgery, by entire body below the neck, except for my arms (where they taped all the tubes and wires while I was sedated), was shaved. I liked the feeling of bare legs and now shave my legs spring through fall. The first shave of the season is a pain, but after that, maintenance is easy. Three minutes with a disposable razor every few days while showering. I even do that when I am touring.

IMO, a set of hairly legs sticking out of spandex shorts in not attractive.

I've thought about it, but my wife complains enough about the muscular toning of my calves and quads all ready..../
i'd think shaving would just accentuate that more

Interesting.... For those who don't quite get it.... Yep, If you are actually going to race you are going to need to shave...
For infection prevention in a crash and the aftermath... Yes that is a reason, but it has more to do with massaging sore muscles and not having hair in the way of recuperating lotions than anything else... But of course the Huber Masculinitus Australopithicus types would never consider anything that might risk to threaten ( or not ) their stratospheric testosterone count ....
Yet you guys still ride a bicycle ....... Aw... Schucks ......That's so cute ...LOL

Amazing how certain people equate everything they cannot comprehend on a derogatoricaly based gender categorization ..

I don't, but I'm also not a yeti either. the hair on my arms/legs is light colored, sparse, and fine anyway, from a short distance you can barely tell I don't shave

plus, wifey likes that I don't (I have asked her thoughts on the matter), her words: if I wanted to go to bed each night with a woman I would have switched teams years ago.

I laughed.

I only shave my right leg so the hair doesn't get stuck in the chain.

Since I don't regularly get massages after epic rides, I leave my hair like nature intended.

About once a month I take the dog trimmers to knock down the bushy legs. Much easier and faster than shaving and close enough for me.

Incorrect.

Also, I'm gonna go ahead and call you out here:
How much race experience do you have?
What is your racing category?

An experienced, elite level racer wouldn't say something stupid like that, even though most of them have shaved legs.

I've posted this before, but it may as well be repeated here.

I shave my legs. For the following reasons:

1% road rash care
1% ease of massage
47% tradition
51% vanity

Pretty much it for me but a slightly bigger percentage of vanity.

Due to hairy legs, or shaved legs?

I think there are other reasons why the country's going down the toilet, but that's going to be reserved for another thread.
