Riding buddy may buy a CF Trek Madone... safe distance to keep?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Riding buddy may buy a CF Trek Madone... safe distance to keep?

I can't risk injury by asplosion. Anyone know a good safe minimum distance to stay away from a carbon Trek?

You better ride solo. Flying debris and stuff.

Personally, I wouldn't ride any closer than 3 bike lengths. Reason is simple. Trek's litigious nature has a cost to the company straight off the bottom line and my suspicion is they are scrimping on their quality control as a result. This rob Peter to pay Paul practice is cause for concern if not caution.

Just steal his and then when it asplode, you can take on the full impact and protect him. A good friend will sacrifice himself.

Then why did you buy ANOTHER 2014 Trek Madone 5.9 after your 2011 Madone 6.2?

Not to worry, Tom. With the upgrade to a Trek, your buddy will be so much faster that the only time you'll ever see him is when the bike is stopped and he is waiting for you. Very liitle risk of asplosion with a stopped bike.

Why did you keep it and not sell it if it's so inferior to your Specialized?

The formula for this is simple.

Where N+1 is the current amount of bikes owned, the appropriate distance to keep from the new Madones is to add together the N+1 number for both you and your Madone buddy. Take that number and square it, then multiply by the number of times a Belgian has won Paris-Roubaix. That is your correct following distance in meters.

The proper distance to maintain in front of him is the distance that you ride away from his asploding Trek on your ancient steel steed, so he can see how much his crabon bike doesn't matter, but he can still see you.

You'd rather ride an inferior bike in worse, more dangerous conditions? Rain and the dark doesn't hurt your carbon bike.

Man, I wish there was a way to test bikes blindfolded to prove most folks can't tell the difference between two similar bikes of different brands. That would put an end to all this nonsense. But then what would we do for online fun?

So Spesh is too arrogant and litigious, Trek asplodes, Giant is embarrassed to put their own name on most of what they make... What is there left to ride? Willier? Maybe, but first you have to ask how to pronounce it. I don't know; it is getting harder and harder to find a bike to buy.

What's left is Cervelo...but then you are deemed an insufferable snob by the ignorant haters that lump people in categories based upon kind of bike they ride.

They should be after naming one of their bikes "Butte," and some of us have to deal with "Giant Butte" jokes.

Yeah I'd be embarrassed to be producing the world's most popular bikes, they are definitely not putting their names on those bikes... WTF? And clearly embarrassed by sponsoring Pro teams so everyone knows they are riding Giants. Yeah some serious embarrassment. And then producing what many think is the best aero bike ever, Propel? Yeah more embarrassment. Should be ashamed. And lastly their TCR Advanced SL, what a terrible bike, super light, industry leading torsion and stiffness, so much embarrassment. They ought to kick themselves in the face.
