New Road Bike Suggestions between $400 - $600
Hello everyone! I'm looking to get back into road cycling because I'm out of shape and I hate every other form of exercising. I'm hitting myself for selling my Lemond Victoire a few years back. Uhhhhh.
Anyhow, I took a tiny five mile ride today on a POS mountain bike I got for taking to the beach, casual rides with the family, etc. This is obviously not going to work.
So, I'm looking to get a road bike that is reliable and not going to fall apart. It doesn't have to be top of line obviously with my price range but I don't want to get a lemon either. Who's making some decent stuff these days?
Mission: I'd like to ride 3-4 times a week and approximately 15-20 miles per ride. Nothing super serious...just wanna get my arse back in shape.
Thanks for your help.

I think even at $600 you are just scratching the bottom of the barrel as far as "new" name brand bikes go? You might score a leftover 2013 low end bike but you might also consider looking at some used bikes to get more bang for your buck?

+1 on used at that pricepoint. If you had no experience at all, new would make a bit more sense to me.

Personally, with that budget, I'd go for something used. You can buy something that needs a little work and fix it up to near-perfect shape.
First, figure out your size and then find a functional one:
Trek 1200 Road Bike
Anza tour bike 56cm aluminum/carbon fiber frame, 24 speed
Bianchi Giro
58cm Cannondale CAAD3 with Sram Rival
Cannondale R700 Road Bike 50cm
TREK 1220 21-SPEED ROAD BIKE
Giant OCR2 road bike
Trek 1500 Bike

Look for leftovers at local bike shops. Last fall one of my local shops had a new Jamis Satellite with Sora shifters and drivetrain priced around $500. I know some people here poo-poo Sora, but seemed like a great deal on a solid bike to me. Bring cash and you can probably do even better.

If it were earlier in the season, I'd recommend you check out bikesdirect. They've got some nice bikes within the price range you're looking at. Unfortunately, many of their bikes are sold out in popular sizes.
Call the various shops in your area, tell them what your price range is, and see if you can't uncover a hidden gem.

Any opinions on the 2014 Raleigh Revenio 2.0.? Looks like a pretty nice bike for $900.

You could get a used Lemond Zurich pretty easily for $600, if you like that kind of geometry. Some will have Ultegra on them, too.
