Need info on this Cervélo Frame
3 Attachment(s)
Hi it has been along time since I was on here due to health reasons.
So I bought this Cervélo was told it is about 10 years old but really have no clue. I was thinking 1990ties. It is aluminum So since my health is coming back I need to get out riding hence buying this frame. It came with a FSA SLK crank-set(pretty much new), seat post, seat, head set, carbon front fork, stem, Dura Ace front derailleur and 105 calipers for $180. I know it is a weird mix of components. If this is actually a decent/semi decent frame I will build up with one group set and trade off what came with it or use on something else. The serial number is 11569006 stamped in the rear stay. If it is a bike worth building I might have paint stripped and power coated/painted black and run flight-deck shifters with Shimano Ultegra or 105 depending I have been Googling it looking for brochures pictures etc, but finding nothing. I do have this posted in vintage bikes but they suggested to post here Any/all help will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Scott http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=383289http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=383290http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=383291 |

Thanks for the info I was thinking it was this but the colour of mine had me for a loop. Cannot find any this colour. I think I will just run with 105 group set as I have 85% of it |
I went to a Cerélo dealer today and found out exactly what it is.
When you walk in and the bike mechanic only words are WOW This is a start up frame from when they were working out of the basement in Quebec. The bike shop owner figures it is around 17-19 years old and was one of the original frames hand built by Phil White and Gérard Vroomen. The bike shop offered me $450 for the frame. |
Pretty cool Cervelo historic piece - but I would sell it and get a production frame. Who knows if Vroomen and White didn't build that frame to test it in a wind tunnel - and it wasn't meant to actually be ridden, or something??

+1; I'd take the money.

So I know exactly what it is 1998 Cerélo Eyre 56 cm one off custom build more of a prototype.
I actually drove up to Cervélo's Head Office with frame in hand. They were shock and said that we usually do not have customers show up. They were very helpful beside the point of just showing up. They took my frame into the back ran the serial number but could not find it. Also they admitted that the records before 2004 are not well kept. They new it was a 100% Cervélo because of the down tube, but was not sure the model as it was a cross of the Eyre and the One. So since most of the employees are not from the opening of Cervélo they sent me to one of the original builders that was employed at the start. So off to the bike shop he works at. He knew the bike exactly. So it is a hand build from the Devinci/Cerélo days and was a custom order. There was only a handful painted this colour. This one set the colour for the other few. It is set up for 650c wheels. Never owned a bike with 650c the last bike shop said they get up to speed quicker. I have no idea any advice on that would be greatly appreciated Thanks for all the help Scott |

What kind of voodoo magic do you think goes into building a bike frame? Judging by the pictures, it has definitely been ridden.

Not voodoo magic, but if it was a display model, or some prototype that wasn't meant to be sold, etc, it may not be the safest bike to ride. But, since the OP verified it with Cervelo (pretty cool they were able to help track down the original builder!), it's fine!
Built on a Eyre jig but not really an Eyre or a One. So the person bought 4 bikes in total including this one. I could not get the answer on why 4 bikes but I do know it was supposedly a Triathlon bike. With all this being said Cervélo said there is absolutely no warranty on the frame main reason being that Cervélo back then was a completely different company most bike built by Devinci or hand built by the founders in Quebec. Now if I do build it up not sure if I will run with drop bars or triathlon/bull horn bars. The money I have into it I my just keep it as a conversation piece and look for another bike. The joys of being sick for along time way too much time on my hands. Once I get back to work I will not have the time to research like I did. I might bring it to the shop that offered me money and use it as a to knock some money off a new built bike |

Given the established provenance of the frame, there is no way I would let it go for $450. I would just enjoy the heck out of owning a little piece of history from a manufcturer of some very cool bikes. I would also see if you could get a letter from the original builder confirming what he told you about the frame. If you ever wanted to sell it down the road, something like that would add immesurable value.
Neat story. |
^^
True, you would think Cervelo would want it to preserve their early history. |
I went nuts full Ultegra 6700 10 speed crank, bb, derailleurs, flight deck shifters, wheel set, calipers all in the dark grey. Just trying to figure out if I can run a Ultegra 6800 11 speed chain on it
Still waiting on wheels, calipers and shifters they are in the mail everything is new or new take offs With the frame I am into it for $1600 Canada or about $1499.53 US |

Just stumbled across your thread. I own a Cervelo eyre as well. Same sequence of serial number, 11569005. Mine is white, has dura-ace all around. I will likely never sell mine, more likely to hang on the wall in the future. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=403252http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=403251
