How many shoes you have?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1 pair. I rinse the insoles after a sweaty ride, and wear booties when it is cold.

Started with cheap Lakes, still going strong.Afflicted with upgrade-itis so I moved on to DMT Prismas, fantastic fit,but poor quality of cover and the Boa Ratchet won't ratchet,a shame. So now I am rocking a pair of Diadora Jet Racers but am keen on a a pair of S Works to match the Tarmac.

4: Primary, previous, previous to that because it turned out the replacements weren't so hot after all, and winter.

Primary 3-hole, Previous 2-hole touring pair the sole of which has lost its stiffness thus precipitating the purchase of current primary (and switch to Keos), and old primaries which had to be replaced because they were actually mismatched in size.

Lots. Even after throwing away worn out shoes and selling non-fitting ones. I may be the Imelda Marcos of cycling. I can ride pretty much any damn saddle, but shoe fit is a PITA.

four - newest carbon sole, previous plastic sole that the LBS had on sale 50% off, older same plastics sole, and an even older pair I keep in case the others fall apart at the same time.

2, SIDI's and Specialized Expert's which I have yet to get a good ride in on. Shoes are a pain because you don't really know how they will feel until you take them on a 25+ mile ride...climbing in my SIDI's tends to make my pinky toe sneak under my other toes (hence the Specialized shoes)...how the hell would I know that by just trying them on!!!???

They need to have demo shoes, like they do with Fizik demo saddles.

I'm temporarily down to two pair. With size 51 dogs, it sometimes takes a while to restock.

2 pairs-shimano R170s which are my comfortable and reliable go tos; Giro Empires I wear occasionally and were great in the colder weather this past winter/spring. I actually have 2 pairs of the R170s because I first bought 44s, which started feeling a little too roomy after the first couple rides so I picked up a second pair of 43.5s which seem to be better. I'll sell the other pair once I'm totally sure about sizing.

3 pairs of sidis because they just won't die! Ergo 2's, ergo 3's, and wire. ~Who doesn't like *new* shoes every now and then?
It's good to know you have a back up for your back up shoes anyhow.

Provided you don't crash, higher end models that have many replaceable parts can be repaired as things break or start to wear out.
For the record, I have had my cobbler replace the velcro on my ergo 2's & 3's. It's possible with a competent shop! They even reuse the original stitching pattern so it's good as new.

Primary and a previous pair.
I only use the previous pair if the primary is wet from a rain ride.

Blue Giro Empires for everyday.
Blue Shimano R320 for the nice rides
Black Shimano something or other (for sale!)
Camo Giro Empires (for spd pedals, use them on the fixed gear)
and then a pair of five tens for the mtb/platform pedals.
